Happy #InternationalMensDay to all the dads out there! First, what is International Men's Day? Yes, IMD is real — it's a day to celebrate the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities, as well as bring light to the many issues that men face. We want to take today to talk about one specific tool we have to support the men in our lives: #PaternityLeave. Paternity leave isn't just good for moms and kids — it's actually great for dads, too! In fact, fathers who take paternity leave often report lower stress levels and improved mental health, as they can engage in parenting and support their families during a significant life transition. It also promotes a healthier work-life balance, allowing fathers to prioritize family during a critical time without the stress of work obligations. And this has ripple effects — when fathers take paternity leave, it sets a precedent for future generations, normalizing the idea that caregiving is a shared responsibility. But here in the U.S., paternity leave is still taboo. It doesn't have to be this way. In countries like Sweden, it's taboo for the dad not to take paternity leave. So this International Men's Day, we're doubling down on our work to fight for family leave for all parents. P.S. Are you a U.S. dad curious to know your paid leave options? I was incredibly grateful for getting Parental Leave when my daughter was born - it was one of the reasons I chose that employer, actually. And the time spent at home during such formative weeks was invaluable to our relationships as a family.
Even though parental leave for both parents is becoming more common (though we still have a long way to go!), many fathers struggle with taking this leave for reasons like stigma. We need to encourage fathers to take this time knowing that it benefits not only dads, but the whole family.
Love this! We need to change the stigma in the USA. “when fathers take paternity leave, it sets a precedent for future generations, normalizing the idea that caregiving is a shared responsibility.”
Ah thanks so much for the shout out ?? love what Moms First do!

5 天前Fathers embracing and taking their full paternity leaves can only have a positive impact on the family unit and society as a whole. Beyond that, it will help to close the gap in the motherhood penalty when people begin to recognize that not all caregiving responsibilities should fall to mom.
