I wear orange on National Gun violence awareness day till raise awareness for the fact that every day in the United States 120 people are shot and killed and 200 more are shot and wounded. I'm wearing orange because every year nearly 18,000 people die in gun homicides in the United states. In Michigan, 585 people die by gun homicides every year and 81% of all homicides in Michigan involving gun Gun violence costs Michigan $16.8 billion each year, more than 300. 80 million of that is paid for by taxpayers. I'm wearing orange because an average of 70 women are shot and killed by an intimate partner every month. I'm wearing orange because every year gun suicide claims the lives of nearly 25,000 people in Michigan, 780 people died by gun suicide every year. A gun suicide death occurs every 11 hours. Today I'm wearing orange to honor the memory of all my community members who live in Harper Woods and in the Detroit area who have been personally. Affected by gun violence?
