Stormwater isn’t just rain—it’s runoff that carries pollutants from our streets into our waterways. Without proper management, these pollutants can cause serious harm to water quality and aquatic life. From oil and chemicals to trash and debris, the contaminants carried by stormwater are a significant threat to the environment. The Preserver? tackles this problem by capturing trash and sediment at the storm drain, preventing them from entering our water systems. It’s a proactive approach that helps protect our rivers, lakes, and oceans from the harmful effects of stormwater pollution. By addressing the issue at its source, The Preserver? supports cleaner, healthier communities. https://thepreserver.com/ #thepreserver #stormwatermanagement #stormwater #momentumenvironmental #civilengineering

Stormwater isn't just a rainy day problem. It’s a persistent issue that affects communities and ecosystems year-round. While rain may be temporary, the pollutants carried by stormwater can have long-lasting impacts on our environment. Urban areas, in particular, suffer the most. The impervious surfaces of cities—like roads, sidewalks, and parking lots—prevent water from naturally soaking into the ground. Instead, it rushes into storm drains, picking up litter, chemicals, and sediment along the way. This polluted water eventually finds its way into rivers, lakes, and oceans, where it can harm wildlife and disrupt ecosystems. Addressing this issue requires innovative solutions that stop pollution at its source. That’s where The Preserver? comes in. Its advanced design captures trash and sediment right at the storm drain, preventing these pollutants from reaching our waterways. By intercepting debris and sediment, The Preserver? supports cleaner water and healthier communities. It’s not just about managing stormwater—it’s about safeguarding the future of our natural resources. https://thepreserver.com/ #thepreserver #stormwatermanagement #stormwater #momentumenvironmental #civilengineering

Did you know that an estimated 10% of the planet's fresh water is stored in peatlands (and up to 70% of Scotland's drinking water)? ?? Keeping peatlands healthy is, therefore, crucial for water security now and in the future. Not convinced? Here are just some of the ways healthy peatlands help with our water supply... ?? Water quality: Water from healthy peatlands is naturally high quality, with low nutrient levels and few pollutants. This is because healthy peatlands act as a filter for water, reducing sediment and other debris. ?? Water retention: Peatlands store a large portion of the world's freshwater resources. This in turn, serves as a vital habitat for a variety of plants and animals that thrive in this environment. ?? Water regulation: Peatlands help regulate water flows, mitigating the risk of flooding. Urban areas generate up to four times more runoff than natural landscapes. This isn’t just a matter of increased water volume; it’s a significant pollution issue. When stormwater flows over impervious surfaces like roads and sidewalks, it picks up contaminants such as oil, heavy metals, and litter. This polluted runoff can overwhelm stormwater systems, leading to floods and degraded water quality. Traditional stormwater infrastructure often struggles to keep up, leading to direct discharges of untreated water into our rivers and oceans. The consequences? Polluted waterways, declining fish populations, and compromised recreational areas. The Preserver? addresses these challenges by filtering out trash and sediment at the storm drain, ensuring that only clean water flows into our natural systems. It’s a proactive solution that tackles the problem where it starts, helping cities manage their stormwater more effectively and sustainably. https://thepreserver.com/ #thepreserver #stormwatermanagement #stormwater #momentumenvironmental #civilengineering

#StormwaterAwarenessWeek has grown into a statewide effort that encourages all of us to raise awareness of how rain water moves through infrastructure and our environment ?? When it rains just one inch, hard surfaces like roads, roofs and sidewalks on just one city block are covered in tens of thousands of gallons of water. Water exits the neighborhood through storm drains, which carry water through underground pipes to outlet, unfiltered, into the nearest river and stream where the water is carried further downstream. This system keeps our homes and businesses from flooding, it's essential! But it poses a problem. A problem that's the single largest source of water pollution in Central Ohio. The problem is that all that water is moving with so much force that it picks up lots of different types of pollution in its path. Bacteria from pet waste, nitrogen and phosphorous from loose dirt, fallen leaves and fertilizer, and heavy metals from car exhaust are just a few examples of this pollution, called stormwater pollution. They can pollute our drinking water, stress aquatic wildlife, and make areas unsafe to swim or fish in. The bad news is that we can all can be responsible for this type of water pollution. The GREAT news is that we can all pitch in to help. How can you help? Learn by taking our Stormwater Awareness Pledge! You'll learn about actions you can take AND be entered into a drawing for a free rain barrel or spill cleanup kit! Learn more and take the pledge at https://lnkd.in/eidqy-QJ

Great short video about water treatment and how Veolia go the extra mile on bio-diversity. Good use of the chalk bed as part of the final process to return water to the environment.
To celebrate Water Saving Week and support Waterwise on their mission to help everyone use water wisely, we visited our Tidworth water treatment facility to see behind the scenes. At Tidworth we produce over 2 billion litres of drinking water and treat a further 800 million litres of wastewater for residents and businesses across the region. Fiona Winters, General Manager and member of the National Drought Group, showed us around the site and explained exactly how this all happens. Watch the video to find out how we treat such a vital resource ?? Find out more at https://ow.ly/kv8f50REbB2. #WaterSavingWeek #WaterWise #Depollution #ResourceRegeneration #EcologicalTransformation

Screening is a critical process in water treatment plants, where physical barriers like screens or meshes remove large debris such as sticks, leaves, and plastics from the water. This step protects downstream equipment, like pumps and filters, from damage and clogging. By removing these contaminants early in the treatment process, screening enhances the efficiency of subsequent treatment stages. Additionally, screening plays a vital role in protecting aquatic ecosystems by preventing harmful materials from entering rivers and streams. It's a simple yet essential step in ensuring that water treatment plants can deliver clean, safe water to communities. #WaterTreatment #Screening #CleanWater #watermanagement #watertreatmentsystems #civilengineer
