It was nice to see the many comments over the last week or so that shared positive thoughts and appreciation for America’s truck drivers.??This group of professionals is certainly deserving of our gratitude and appreciation. Perhaps there is an opportunity here for more shippers and receivers to take this a step further and ensure that they: 1) train their personnel to treat drivers with respect and common courtesy, 2) effectively manage check in/out processes to enable timely turnaround, 3) establish operating practices that optimize timely loading/unloading, 4) provide a clean and safe environment for the drivers to get a cup of coffee or cold drink along with access to a restroom, 5) work collaboratively with the driver/carrier to reschedule when necessary and 6) provide onsite (or arrange close by) parking for drivers hitting their HOS limits. I believe these actions would clearly demonstrate to America’s professional truck drivers that they are truly appreciated all year round.??It will also likely help remove hidden costs in the transportation chain such as reducing driver turnover and improving truck utilization.??A win for all involved.

When Australia Post started their journey with DEKRA, they were experiencing large numbers of #frontline operator injuries. The letter-delivery portion of the business was experiencing very high incident rates with many of these incidents driven, in part, by a 200-year cultural history of delivering mail, no matter what it takes. Operation Safe Driver Week is underway, and we are halfway through! Each summer the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) dedicates a week to driver-safety traffic enforcement. This year, from July 7-13th drivers exhibiting unsafe driving behaviors, such as speeding, distracted driving, aggressive driving, following too closely, etc., will be pulled over by law enforcement and may be issued a warning or citation. Operation Safe Driver Week aims to improve the driving behaviors of passenger vehicle drivers and commercial motor vehicle drivers through educational and traffic enforcement strategies and interactions with law enforcement. The goal of this is to prevent crashes caused by unsafe driving behaviors. At Pace, we are continously holding driver trainings, safety meetings, and checking driver footage to ensure our drivers are following the rules of the road at all times.
