In vitro means "in glass," referring to lab experiments in test tubes, while in vivo involves living organisms, and ex vivo pertains to living tissue outside its host but in controlled conditions. As experimental models become more complex, the distinction between in vitro and ex vivo can blur, leading to confusion. This discussion aims to clarify these terms and establish criteria for ex vivo experiments, helping the tissue engineering and regenerative medicine community enhance their understanding and communication. What if you could use additional quantitative data for kidney stone characterization and compositional analysis? This Tuesday (Feb 20), CTO Karim S. Karim presented the paper “Kidney Stone Compositional Analysis and Identification using a Benchtop High-Resolution Multi-Modal X-ray Phase-Contrast micro-CT Imaging System” at the SPIE Medical Imaging 2024 conference. The paper, authored by a talented team of engineers at KA Imaging, proposes the use of three sets of images – transmission, phase, and scattering – for accurate and faster stone compositional analysis.
