It was a pleasure to host Vijay Pendakur, Ph.D. for a fireside chat at our Lyra Health managers training. In today's world of uncertainty and disruption, effective leadership is crucial for building strong, cohesive teams. Our chat delved into a behavioral model for leaders to earn trust and enhance team cohesion, even in challenging times. One key takeaway was the power of empathy in leadership. We explored cognitive empathy, understanding how others think, and emotional empathy, understanding how others feel. Showing emotional empathy towards your team during change is invaluable. Remember, asking more questions and staying curious can make a significant difference. However, it's important to separate empathy check-ins from day-to-day conversations to avoid blending personal concern with work tasks. Another important discussion was on self-care for leaders. It's essential to balance macro, micro, and personal factors in our lives. Prioritizing "me" time daily, particularly during change, is crucial. Resist the urge to get caught up in external distractions and start your day by focusing on self-care before diving into daily tasks.
