Why Zebras? In the world of medicine, professionals are often reminded, “When you hear hoofbeats, think of horses, not zebras,” encouraging a focus on common diagnoses. But what if it IS a zebra? The zebra has become a powerful symbol for the rare disease community, representing the need to look beyond the usual and consider the uncommon. The Minnesota Rare Disease Advisory Council is dedicated to raising awareness and ensuring those living with rare diseases receive the attention and care they deserve.? ? Come see us at the Minnesota State Fair tonight from 5pm-9pm at the Minnesota Council on Disability booth in the Education Building #RareDisease #RareIsNotRare

??April is Parkinson’s awareness month. ??For the one million Americans living with Parkinson’s, Parkinson’s awareness is more than a month. It’s about bringing attention to a life-changing disease that is on the rise and connecting people to critical resources. ??This special month-long campaign focuses on an important part of PD awareness —educating everyone on the many symptoms that impact daily life and how to address them. It’s also about helping people recognize the early signs that can lead to an earlier diagnosis and overall better quality of life. https://lnkd.in/gyUa2Nu6

Every October, World Blindness Awareness Month shines a spotlight on the blind and visually impaired community, raising awareness about the challenges of living without sight. The World Health Organization (WHO) notes that “everyone, if they live long enough, will experience at least one eye disease or disorder in their lifetime.” The Sight Center is commemorating the occasion with a month-long campaign that will bring attention to blindness, celebrate independence, dispel misconceptions, and promote services for people who live with little or no sight. https://lnkd.in/gzKVbEY4

3 years ago, we introduced our Complex Care service after meeting 1 person… → Stephen with Motor Neurone Disease. Back then, he was in the ICU, hopeless & worried about loosing his independence. Today he’s: - Getting the best possible MND care. - Spreading awareness of the impacts of MND. - Receiving support from his own team & programme. Like most of us, I wasn’t massively familiar with Motor Neurone Disease. But being more aware of it means: ??Earlier detection & treatment ??Less stigma and misconceptions ??Better equipped to support loved ones So here’s everything important to know ??
