When musician Johan Galindo isn't sharing his music with the Madison community, he is busy teaching students at Southside Elementary. By infusing Latin culture into the classroom, he helps build relationships, encourages self-expression and brings joy into the school day. In an inspiring partnership between Vegas PBS and Latino Public Broadcasting’s VOCES series, legendary Latin jazz musician Joe Torres met with talented students from Las Vegas Academy’s Jazz Ensemble. At 92, Mr. Torres shared his rich musical history, working with legends like Celia Cruz and Elvis Presley, and offered timeless advice to aspiring musicians. These remarkable young musicians are helping ensure that the legacy of Latin jazz lives on.
