Exciting on-site experience! While conducting an MASW survey on a fly ash dump, we witnessed liquefaction firsthand after just a few hammer blows—the surface layer liquefied right before us. This highlights the critical importance of considering liquefaction potential in sites with saturated fine soils. It’s a reminder of how crucial proper geotechnical evaluations are to ensure safe and resilient project outcomes. #GeotechnicalEngineering #Liquefaction #MASW #FieldExperience #CivilEngineering #SoilMechanics #SustainableEngineering Dr. Bhanu Pratap Chamoli, CEng Bhavesh Pandey, PhD, CEng. nikhilesh verma

Today is March 14, Pi day! Pi is an important and oft used mathematical constant that relates a circle’s circumference to its diameter.?The ratio is constant regardless of the size of the circle.?Pi is approximately 3.14159 which is why we tried to post this at 1:59 on 3/14.??? ? We at Geo-Solutions https://lnkd.in/eRjJNeJg use circles all the time as we seek to improve society by treating contaminants in soil and groundwater. One method of doing so is by mixing the soil with augers of varying diameters creating cylinders of treated ground or circles when viewed from above. This photo shows a drill rig used for soil mixing https://lnkd.in/dRqKKSnB at one of our active MGP https://lnkd.in/e9bwH6ST site remediation projects located in Chicago, IL.

Innovative Use of Geosynthetic Clay Liners (GCLs) in Levee Reinforcement ?? We are proud that the innovative application of GCLs in levee reinforcement has been published in the June issue of the engineering journal Geotechniek/Geokunst. ?? Project location: Beesel, Limburg, Netherlands ?? Scope: Application of GCLs over 530 meters levee length on the outer slope, crest, and part of the inner slope ?? Innovation: First-time using GCLs at a levee in the Netherlands This unique project was realized in collaboration with ABT bv, Waterschap Limburg, Mourik, FL B.V., and Naue Group. The article covers various aspects, including material properties, design, implementation, and maintenance. It also discusses the monitoring of grass cover during the operation phase. #naue #geosynthetics #bentonitemats #GCL #geotechnicalsolution #hydraulicengineering #floodcontrol #leveeconstruction

Come see our experts at the UESI Pipelines Conference in Calgary to gain crucial insights from Spyros A. Karamanos, PhD, Brent Keil, PE, SCWI, and Robert Card, PE, as they present cutting-edge methods for designing buried steel water pipelines in seismic and geohazard-prone areas. Learn about: - Geohazard Impact: Understanding the challenges of strong ground shaking, faults, landslides, soil subsidence, and liquefaction. - Design Innovations: State-of-the-art techniques to safeguard pipeline integrity. - Strain-Based Design: Key concepts of strain demand and strain resistance. - Practical Applications: How this research informs the next revision of the AWWA M11 manual. Don't miss this opportunity to enhance your knowledge of protecting vital water infrastructure in challenging environments. See you there! #UESIPipelinesConference

Performing Dynamic Cone Penetration ( DCP) test during structural audit via Non Destructive Test (NDT) exercise of an existing building. The aim is to establish engineering properties of the soil at site on which the foundation are built on. The main output will be " The Numeric Value of Soil Bearing Capacity" to be used to access the capacity of the existing foundation. Captured footage is an active structural retrofit site in Lavington -Nairobi

Did you know Leca? Lightweight fill (LWA) requires significantly less compaction when compared to conventional fills? This can substantially reduce program time and cost. The pellets of Leca? LWA are round and naturally find their position at an accelerated rate. Installation layers of up to 1 metre in depth can be easily achieved across multiple geotechnical disciplines. #geotechnicalengineering #structuralengineering #groundworks #underfloor #retainingwalls #highways

Eye From the sky essential to de risking the world portfolio of 29,000 to 35,000 tailings facilities. https://lnkd.in/gfmMfZym InSar is not a substitute for sound engineering but there aren't enough engineers in the world to suddenly bring best practice/best knowledge to every facility where it has been absent. It is needed to help red flag those on which sound engineering review and corrections or mitigations is most urgent. Not all stability issues manifest in surface deformations as we see at the Siana gold project where the failed facility registered no deformations pre failure. Forensically when evolving failure conditions do have surface manifestations they identify point of failure. Though often not in time for de risking there is aways opportunity for mitigation and host community protections. There was enough time at Brumadinho to save every life lost. InSAR registered what ground radar missed. At Zelazny Most partnering InSAR to excellent geotechnical work predicted failure and resulted in an intervention which averted it and possibly stabilized larger main facility threatened with a worsening slump for years and years..
