A fighter pilot is a person with a lot of training, abilities and a unique value, great teamwork, mysticism, feeling, courage, bravery, honor, and many other things. This goes hand in hand with a good plane, and excellent weapons, which will make that great pilot/plane/weapon trilogy. Billy Mitchell is a living example of what he envisioned in military aviation and its importance, now proven in the conflicts in Israel and Russia/Ukraine.

Autonomous aircraft scale much better Pilot shortages are a chronic problem - we can’t train our way out of it because the airlines can consume/hire far more than we can produce. Plus for a while now the fleshy mound of meat in the cockpit has been the limiting factor - only good to about 9Gs. I do like pilots but it takes at least 2 years and millions of $$$ in training just to get a basic wingman. 3-5 more years to get an Instructor Pilot (+ more $$$). But eventually you have something that is pretty special. However, it is time to move to an autonomous military Service - that is Joint by design - has no ego - and doesnt need promotions Those who realize this and go all-in will own the future of warfare. It is a Billy Mitchell moment But I don’t think anyone is ready for it
