?? Female Founders: Where Do We Stand? ?? The European startup scene is seeing an inspiring rise of female founders and investors who are reshaping industries, from tech to sustainability.?? ?? However, the road to success isn’t always easy—especially in a field where only a small percentage of VC funding goes to female-led startups. The situation is slightly better for mixed-gender teams, but there’s still a long way to go. Thankfully, there are platforms and people dedicated to changing the game. Here in Munich, our female founder Dr. Lisa Russelli has already benefited from supportive initiatives from Women Start-up by UnternehmerTUM, Mentessa - Learning as a culture, and MUNICH STARTUP, with dedicated events and resources. Women supporting women is key, and figures like Elizabeth Skinner, coach for women in tech, and Martine Meerkatt, coach for leadership, provide vital support to women as they grow their business. Imagine a world where every tech innovator had a guiding star, a mentor who lights the way. The journey from novice to leader is rarely a solo journey. Behind the veil of every groundbreaking innovation and every triumphant career leap is a long line of mentors and helpful peers. My own journey has been shaped by the mentorship I've both received and given, particularly within programs aimed at elevating women in entrepreneurship. These experiences transcend knowledge transfer. They are about empowerment, breaking through traditional barriers, and collectively redefining how success looks. As we stand on the shoulders of giants and celebrate our milestones, it's crucial to acknowledge the profound impact of these mentorship networks. Who has been your guiding light in entrepreneurship?

The real entrepreneurs and hustlers who power the local IT ecosystem must be recognized in today's fast-changing technology scene. Visionaries innovate and create an atmosphere that promotes #development, #cooperation, and #learning. By taking chances and questioning the current quo, they help others succeed and grow the IT community. [SmartCompany] Startmate has been full steam ahead in 2024. Two clear themes for us so far are women and founders. We kicked off the year with a 60% women co-founded accelerator cohort, launched a brand new strategy called?Ladymates?that supports women from pre-career right up to founders and exec leadership, had a pre-Accelerator cohort made up of 50% women co-founders and saw 10/11 companies who placed in the final pre-Accelerator pitches night – as women founders. We’re making a concerted effort to a) invest in women and b) play a role in creating and inspiring the next gen of women founders through our offerings (Student Fellowship,?Women Fellowship,?Ladymates Collective,?Ladymates Leadership,?Launch Club). Our big bet is that the more we invest in women across their?entire career journey?(student, entry-level, employed, leadership), the more we will see a shift in mindset and also funding (yes, we were disappointed to see the latest Cut Through data). The end goal: Uni students will graduate straight into startups, women employed at a startup will leave to found their own, women leaders will be the key decision-makers in investment teams, exited women founders will re-enter the ecosystem and invest in more women – the cycle goes on. Thanks to the Innovate UK fiasco, there's been a lot of focus this week on the barriers and inequities female founders face. So it's good to see initatives like this, that are focused on overcoming the many barriers and biases that are holding too many women entrepreneurs back. But whenever this subject is discussed, I get so frustrated about how one-sided the inevitable conversations about confidence are. ?? Yes, helping female entrepreneurs and leaders build more confidence can be an important part of the solution. But what about the other half of the confidence equation? ? We need to help the men who control most of the investment funds to have LESS confidence in their ability to know what a good leader looks like. ?We need them to question THEMSELVES more. ?To see past their own limiting biases and blind spots. ?To understand the data on effective leadership and business opportunity. Imagine if we put as much energy into changing the way men engage with feminine-coded qualities and interests, as we do into encouraging women to behave more like men have done for centuries... ?? ?? ?
