When you witness an exchange where both men and women are at their best, you realise these behaviors can be modeled, showcased, and emulated across countries and issues. What stands out in this brief interaction is the respect, regard, recognition, and valuing of each other, all delivered with calmness. This is in stark contrast to the tirades often seen from referees. There is always a better way. I feel proud seeing female leaders demonstrating how it is done. There is so much dignity in respect. Creating a culture of regard between referees and players requires effort and buy-in from everyone, from the top down. But isn’t it worth striving for, this level of emotional intelligence? This is leadership! Leadership allows space for those who have made mistakes to correct them. You don't have to be big and loud and harsh, you have to be sincere, and consistent. The refs (managers) who can't control a game are the refs with lack of leadership. They get loud, make inconsistent calls, get defensive and take it personal. Those are the games where it gets out of control and players get hurt. Start on the right foot with a pregame agreement, follow it up with a reminder, and then calmly and consistently make your calls, while continuously reminding the teams of the agreements and goals for the match! Sports ball can teach us valuable lessons if we take the time to pay attention.

Accountability is so powerful. Harness it. It makes every team better.

Should England Rugby have gone with a 6:2 split on the bench to counter the Springbok Forwards. Generally i'm not a fan of 6:2 but Borthwicks bench selections leave me scratching my head. Who is covering 12 or 13? and what happens if Freddie Steward gets injured? Ford can't cover 15 so Marcus has to move to 15 and Ford comes on at 10. 99 % of England fans want Marcus to play 10 for the full 80 minutes so if that happens it's not going to sit well with the England Rugby fans. So we have to assume Ford is #23 as insurance for a Marcus Smith injury and that only. Ford is a classy player and was historically 'always' in the 23 because Farrell would easily slip in to 12 and still be close to the action. It's different now, I think either Ford starts if Marcus is injured or he misses out on the 23 altogether, as he's not versatile enough to be a sub. I have more doubts about Freddie Steward needing to be tactically replaced against the Springboks than Marcus Smith. The Springboks won't waste their time putting high balls up on Steward, so will run him around. Personally I think Furbank would have been a better option at 23 as he can easily cover 15 and 10 and at a push wing which Roebuck is doing. You can then have Randall and Furbank as the 2 backs replacements in a 6:2. If England suffer an early injury at 12, 13 or 15. It could be a very long afternoon. What would you do for this game 6:2 or 5:3

Whether a fan or a neutral, the game wasn’t without its heart stopping moments. But Tom as TMO, (Television Match Official) and his team, remained clear, composed and concise throughout. “Our job as referees isn't about seeking approval or being liked; it's about making fair and just decisions, regardless of their popularity. The one thing that separates rugby from other sports - ??. Total respect and discipline towards the refs - it has been our backbone…. well certainly used to be! This clip is great to see but IMO sadly respect for refs is slowly eroding from our great game week to week and too often is allowing for questioning of the ref at all stages of their match ( on and off field) especially in key decisions! Victim culture - everyone’s hard done by if it doesn’t go their way - right or wrong ( human ) refs decisions are final - as frustrating as that might be! Errors occur sometimes in your favour, sometimes it goes against you. Get over it and play on! “Managing The Ref” in a professional environment has become the norm! Many very well know top players have contributed significantly to this. And should have been corrected on their behaviour! The resultant affect? - So much so now on social media much of the public thinks that’s refs are open season to be continously questioned, attacked, abused. Players are seen to be allowed to discuss, disagree and often argue with officials week after week - so why shouldn’t fans, other level players and kids & parents watching and playing do anything different?? @worldrugby if you don’t take a very hard line soon - direct, educate why, but ultimately act to stamp out the constant diatribe and victim culture that is creeping into the game - and insist on TOTAL respect for officials ( whatever the decision ( right, wrong or indifferent l) rugby will cease to have their one advantage over other sports ??! Once gone you will never recover it, and neither will the sport!
