360 Speakers.….Behind the Mic with Tom Foley
While we know that he will always take it all in his stride, remaining grounded and humble throughout, we couldn’t let this occasion pass without congratulating Tom on officiating over his 5th Premiership Rugby Final, on the weekend.
Northampton Saints v Bath Rugby - two titans of English & European Rugby - went head to head at Twickenham on Saturday, with Northampton Saints coming out ahead, to clinch the 2024 title 25 - 21.
Whether a fan or a neutral, the game wasn’t without its heart stopping moments. But Tom as TMO, (Television Match Official) and his team, remained clear, composed and concise throughout.
“Our job as referees isn't about seeking approval or being liked; it's about making fair and just decisions, regardless of their popularity. Adhering to the principle of not aiming to be popular helps maintain our focus on the integrity of the game, ensuring that our decisions are unbiased, and made with the best intentions for the sport” - Tom Foley - (Taken from his interview on the 360 Speakers UK website)
?? Talk is one thing - but putting that talk into action, when it counts, is something else entirely. Tom Foley & referee Christophe Ridley were the epitome of excellence, displaying a masterclass in Performance under Pressure, when it mattered most.
When you make big calls, on the biggest stage of all, everyone will have an opinion. The ones that count, however, are the ones from peers and those who know the game.
?? "Excellence"
?? "Professional to the core"
?? "Clear headed teamwork"
These were just a few of the comments we found written in the press & social media over the weekend. Praise indeed for two of the best in the game.
Huge congrats to you Tom. That was indeed an excellent performance from you, in every sense - Tracey Duke
