Hi guys, it's Haley Coleman here. We just wrapped up two great days of Save Our Shelves. In partnership with The Nature Conservancy and the Beau Rivage, we were able to recycle more than 20 tons of oyster shells back into the Mississippi Sound. Here's a look back at all of the volunteers hard work. Hey, y'all, it's Kayla. And I'm here with TJ, the area manager in Bay Saint Louis. We're in Long Beach shoveling shells into buckets and bags today with The Nature Conservancy. We've obviously brought out the big guns. We have a great group of volunteers. TJ, tell us a little bit about while we're out here today. Well, first of all, what a gorgeous, beautiful day I spent a day. I'm very excited to be here. Very excited that the Bay Saint Louis team joined us today. But we were recycling oyster shells, cleaner ecosystem, better fishing overall, making it a better environment for the coast. Absolutely. This is a total win win team effort today. It's not just us. We're out here doing the the work today, but we partnered with The Nature Conservancy and the Burbage actually donated these shelves behind us, nearly 30,000. More than 30,000 shells and all of these are going to go back in the water tomorrow. We're out here at Henderson Point for Day 2 of Save Our Shells. Continuing all of the hard work that was done yesterday. I'm here with coach, division manager Mark Lofman. And Mark, you're actually out here kind of playing around in your old stomping grounds. You're old role, right? Yeah, that's right, Haley. So what we're doing today was really came from an idea that was born about 10 years ago. I was on The Nature Conservancy board when I was the environmental affairs director. And we came up with this idea and we, the company actually made a donation to The Nature Conservancy, which they were able to leverage with some other grant funds to start this oyster reef that Tony Trapani reef that we're working on today. So this is kind of coming full circle. We got this project started. You know, we, we had really bad problems in the Mississippi Sound in 2019 because the Bonnie Cary spillway was open for a while. All that fresh water decimated our oyster population out there in the Sound. So. The Nature Conservancy at that time said, you know, came to us and said, can you help? So this is where this all started. So we're glad. I'm glad to be out here today to actually see these oysters going on the reef. Yeah. And we're so glad to have you and all of our volunteers that came out to help us today. We've been doing environmental stewardship for many years, but most recently we've expanded our focus to conservation and ecological restoration. And so we've been a part of this project with The Nature Conservancy several years now, and it dates back to the plan. Planning, permitting, all those aspects, but today is the day they need a boots on the ground. So yesterday we filled bags, we filled buckets of shells. Today we just dumped our first load and we're going back. It's a great opportunity for the environment. We've got 30,000 lbs of oyster shells that we're avoiding disposal. They're being reused to benefit the environment.
