Are you involved in early careers recruitment? If so, we would love to work with you! Skills, skills, skills. No, I'm not about to start a Destiny's Child parody group #phew but this is what is on my mind today. There is so much talk about #skills in the #careers and #education space and a recent article in the CDI's Career Matters summarised this very well, highlighting the different names for transferable/soft/employability skills that are being promoted through careers education in schools and colleges. No matter what labels we use, we at the South London Careers Hub and South London Partnership are very interested in how we can support schools to embed skills education throughout their curriculum and to increase the confidence of staff throughout the school to talk about skill development and its relevance to the workplace. If you think is an area you could provide insight or guidance into, please join us at our upcoming Employer Forum on 16th July and register here https://lnkd.in/e2j4ZgVR. We would love to hear your ideas!

Fantastic to see a write-up about our Cowork Coplay program, delivered for Royal Australian Navy families as a trial through their Stay Onboard - People First campaign. This line from Director General Navy People Group, Tish Van Stralen, is particularly powerful: "Without our families we can't do our jobs, our families are just as important as our members". Read the story: https://lnkd.in/gN6WXVt3 A couple of brief points from Navy spouses about what they got out of the program: “Over the last six weeks it’s been awesome to work on my resume and apply for a few internships while my boys are in care next door,” Mrs Mangano said. ... “I’ve made some really good connections with the other Navy wives, even my daughters made friends with the other Navy kids. We feel like we have a community now,” Miss Reweti said. In our experience, the program offers a range of benefits and they vary depending on what the individuals are seeking or need. However, there are similar themes around: connection & community; time to focus on their own goals & activities [boosting autonomy and self-mastery]; and learning about self & what organisations are offering to the #Defencecommunity. The program delivery model was also designed by Claire Harris (CPM), Strategic Director and Cowork Coplay Programs Lead, to employ local Defence spouses, as is the case here. The incredible Tamara Paton was the local Program Facilitator. Image and story credit: Navy. Thanks to Es for writing this article and many thanks to the team at Navy for your focus on families' wellbeing. #navyfamilies #defencefamilies #defencepartners #socent #socialenterprise #defenceindustry #defencecapability #familystrength #humanelement #coworkcoplay

What advice would you give to a Year 12 student about preparing themselves for the future?
Last week the Haileybury Careers team hosted the inaugural Future Ready Festival for our Senior School students. The Future Ready Festival connected students with industry experts, representatives from the Old Haileyburians Association (OHA), and tertiary institutions to equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in an increasingly complex and competitive world. Students heard personal career narratives from OHA representatives, learned about various study areas, and explored emerging industry trends. These insights were invaluable for our students. The Future Ready Festival inspired our students to embrace new opportunities and look forward to their futures with confidence.
