If you've ever worked in sales, then you know about the numbers game. The numbers game, is about endurance and states that the sales success is attributed through the increase in outreach and engagement activities.
Being successful in getting job offers is like sales, you need to go out there and get exposure.
I realized this early on during my transition from the military and I made it a goal to meet 1,000 people and talk to them about my transition and see if they knew someone or had a vacancy that was a great fit for me.
I did this by passing out the 1,000 business cards at job fairs, conferences, business meetings, and to strangers on the plane as I headed to these various places.
Some keys to being successful with this:
1) Have you practiced what you are going to say to individuals that you are going to meet? What is the elevator pitch?
2) Have a list of 5-10 questions ready available to ask about the company that you are learning about and to see if it's a great fit for you! Q: Thank you for sharing the various salary ranges at your organization, what perks and other compensations are given ,if any, for your employees?
3) Always look your best when you introduce yourself. You want to make a great first impression to the individuals that can open the doors for employment. You don't have to spend a million dollars to look great. It's simple as wearing a sports coat with a button down collard shirt.
4) Always have your resume ready to fire off. I can't tell you how many times individuals tell me that they will send me their resume in a week because they need to build it! I recommend working on your resume every year. Pick your birthday, for example, and mark your calendar to get it done.
5) The best thing to do when you meet another person is to listen intently and repeat what they have said or "mirroring" them. You do this by repeating back exactly what someone else has said, word for word, preceded by “I hear you saying” or “I heard you say.”
Below is an opportunity for a job fair. It may not have a lot of jobs youe interested in. However, it gives you an opportunity to practice your sales pitch and making leads with others for future employment. The job fair below has over 103,000 followers. Reality is that only a couple of hundred people at most will show up. You've got to do the work if you want to be successful. Good luck on your job hunt! Jayme
