Last chance to lend your voice to our needs assessment survey! As part of our designation as a Federal Area Agency on Aging, and as part of the Older Americans Act, Minuteman Senior Services is required to create an Area Plan every four years that expands on our goals as an agency and aligns our funding priorities with what we have learned as part of our needs assessment activities. One very important part of our needs assessment activities is a survey that we are asking for your help in responding to, so that we can gather important information to help guide our Area Plan. https://lnkd.in/eF6W2Ce4

Older adults have unique and individual needs that deserve personalized attention. Age-friendly Care at Home means focusing on what truly matters most to each person we serve. It involves listening attentively to their concerns and desires, ensuring their voices are heard and respected. In Age-Friendly Care, what matters most is creating a person-centered holistic plan of care for each individual, that respects their preferences and treats them with the utmost dignity. Our commitment should be to provide care that is not only compassionate but also deeply individualized, making a positive difference in the lives of the older adults we serve. As an older adult, at what point do you ask for help or accept care? I have now started giving presentations on this topic to older adult audiences and have received strong interest. This is not surprising, for two reasons: 1) There is hardly any literature out there about reaching out for help from the perspective of the older adult, instead the vast majority is written for the adult child audience. 2) Many older adults grapple with how to ask for help / accept care. Ultimately, they still want to be in charge. (As do we all!) As eldercare consultants who are working with families, it is so important that we pay attention to the 'silent' voice of the older adult. In my presentations to older adult audiences, my goal is to help them become better advocates for themselves. Ultimately, this starts with becoming knowledgeable about the community resources and services available to older adults, so that if / when they reach out to ask for help, they have a sense of their options. In this scenario they can maintain greater control in the decision making of their own futures.
