RESPECT YOURSELF ? I’m currently going through a process of defining my target market and choosing only to work with those people who fit my criteria: passionate speakers and leaders who genuinely want to make a difference to others through their story, message or impact - and who understand the value of radical authenticity and genuine presence. They also need to have a certain amount of self-deprecating humour and integrity. I’ve worked with some truly wonderful people and I do love my clients! I feel very fortunate to have attracted some amazing stars - and am grateful that they come to work with me and let me help give birth to their dreams - especially some of my 1:1 coaching clients but also some awesome L&D Directors and leaders who have brought me in to work with their leadership teams. If anything is slightly amiss, I believe it’s best to clear the air. Recently a misunderstanding arose. One of my clients put out a very similar workshop to one I had pitched some weeks earlier - and indeed to another that I had delivered for them recently - and indeed, indeed to my book title. This would be a profit-making workshop that they’d run by an in-house facilitator rather than have me lead on it. I was surprised by the similarities and that I wasn’t asked, but… It could have been coincidence or it could have been a innocent error of judgment. Rather than jump to conclusions or remain quietly resentful, I requested an opportunity to chat it through. To me, it was a matter of integrity, on both my part and theirs. When this request was declined, I recognised that if there was not a willingness to talk about how it appeared from my perspective then this was not someone I could work with. There needs to be a certain reasonable mutual respect and while I am the service-provider that does not mean tolerating anything. Saying ‘no’ is empowering. None of us need to be put up with being undervalued or disrespected. Whether by a client, a colleague, a partner or a friend. Say ‘No’ as Dan reminds us below!?? #REALleadership #yourleadershipstory
