We've had a shocking trend in #Anchorage for the past 10 days. Six Alaskans were stuck and killed in vehicles crashes, making it 12 pedestrians killed this year in Anchorage. Pedestrian fatalities ARE preventable. Moderate your speed, minimize distractions, and watch for, and yield to, pedestrians. When walking, wear retro reflective or light-colored clothing, and cross roads in high visibility areas. It's not every day you taxi at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) peek out the window, and there's your son, working on your project. I have followed the progress of many Light Utility Vehicle projects, and have followed Canada LUV for 4 years, and responded twice as industry. For me a LUV is soft skin, the last 20 years has carved a chunk of LUV off into a protected mobility fleet and much of NATO has such a capability. Leaving LUV to be soft skin as it always has been. In the various RFI issues by Canada, armour has been in every time as a percentage of each variant, maybe 15% armour. Wait for it...............STANAG 2 ballistics either as permanent or add-on. So the LUV has to be a vehicle that can take a STANAG 2 armour system AND by a regular soft skin vehicle. I would suggest this would exclude all the typical LUV type product that has found service in the military from GM Defence, Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Ford & IVECO etc So run a pre-qual, and it look like the armour requirement has been the hurdle to jump when you look at who qualified. AM General: HMMWV in soft skin and armoured format or JLTV ? Armatec Survivability Group: Fronting for someone yet to be known. Oshkosh Defence LLC: Assumed to by JLTV ? Roshel: F-550 based APC's Not an LUV in sight, all the above can do STANAG 2, armour is running this one ? Does STANAG 2 armour belong in a LUV project ? Be interesting to watch this one unfold............or come full circle back to a pre-qual......or maybe some appeals and the list gets longer and an actual LUV appears on the list, Be interesting to watch this one develop............
