How did I become a Partner in Biglaw at 31?
It's a trick question that you can't figure out without some background. The math doesn't math, as some would say.
I started dual enrollment (taking college classes for high school credit) early on in high school. At the beginning of my "Junior" year, we sat down with my counselor and realized I was going to be out of credits soon. So that year became my Senior year, and I graduated a year early at age 16.
When I graduated from high school, I also graduated with my Associate's degree through dual enrollment. I started at FSU the next fall at age 17 as a Junior (by credit). To maximize my time at FSU, I double majored in Finance and International Affairs. After 3 years, I graduated from college at 19.
I started law school the next fall at age 20. Three years later, I graduated law school (no shortcuts there) at 23. I was admitted to The Florida Bar in September 2016. Now, I'm in my 8th year of practice.
Over the years, I've had several people question my abilities because of my age. But age is just a number. Just because someone is younger than you doesn't mean they're less capable. The metric, instead, should be hard work and competence.
