Within the White group, 11 out of every 10,000 people experience homelessness. For Black people, that number is more than four times as large—48 out of every 10,000 people. Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islanders particularly stand out as having the highest rates, with 121 out of every 10,000 people experiencing homelessness.?The racial and ethnic groups with the highest incidences of homelessness have extensive histories of experiencing oppression, including displacements from land and property and exclusions from?housing opportunities. Effectively addressing homelessness will likely require invested partners to account for America’s history, and that history’s influence on current culture, policy, and practice.”…. It’s stress awareness month and as part of that there are things we can all do to aid our own wellbeing. One of the 5 ways to wellbeing is to give. There’s lots of research about the positive effects of taking part in social and community life with some studies showing that people who help others are more likely to rate themselves as happy. Why are general operations and capacity building such hard sells for funders when the people who do the work are dependent on these funds? Respect for those impacted ???? Respect for the heroes who responded When addressing a memorial or even a celebration - take the time to respect those who are celebrating or commemorating. This includes: ??Knowing the details of the event ??Knowing the names of those that invited. you to speak ??Knowing the names of the hosts ??Understanding the meaning of this event to both the hosts and the attendees ??Understanding your role amongst any others who may be addressing this event ??Respecting their time ?? Because as a speaker - an MC or keynote - you have a lot of power invested in you. Power to control the energy of the event and the power to influence people's experience. ?? Respect them and you will gain their hearts. ?? This is not a hack - this is about being genuine.
