My first interaction with patient transport came as a kid — when I’d stay up late waiting for my parents, both doctors, to come home from a long day of cases. They’d often get stuck at the hospital hours longer than intended because patients weren’t being delivered to procedure rooms on time, slowing down highly important (and costly) operations. Today, patient transport accounts for thousands of hours of delays in a hospital, resulting in losses of millions of dollars and a worse patient experience. What we’ve been working on at Juxta over the past few months makes patient transport a strength of a hospital — not a weakness. We cut delays during transport in half and enable higher throughput at profit centers across a facility. As a data science guy, I get even more excited about the analytics we can provide, powered by our proprietary, ML-powered geospatial technology: infection sourcing, predictive transporter placement, and estimated return times, to name a few. A randomized trial involving over 4,500 participants compared the use of surgical masks for two weeks in public places versus controls without masks. The study, published in BMJ between 10 February 2023 and 27 April 2023, 4575 participants (60.9% women, average age 51) were studied. In the group using face masks, 8.9% reported respiratory symptoms, compared to 12.2% in the control group. The face mask intervention showed a 29% reduction in risk, but it did not significantly impact self-reported or registered COVID-19 infection rates.s. Although this may increase operational costs, the potential for improved health and reduced infection rates can lead to significant long-term benefits. Choosing air purifiers that foster a healthier hospital environment can be a crucial step in enhancing patient care.?
