Incredibly tough and highly emotional week for the Texas Panhandle where friends, community members and colleagues have evacuated their homes, and many have experienced property damage up to total home loss due wildfires in the region.
I am compelled with a deep sense of humility not to seek your “thoughts and prayers” but to plainly ask for your financial aid for this community. A disaster like this can strike any community, any neighborhood and any family regardless of your location or socioeconomic standing. I recommend the following legitimate ways to donate financially to those impacted by the Wildfires in the Texas Panhandle if you are compelled by the spirit of generosity.
Hutchinson County United Way
Red Cross Panhandle Plains Chapter
For those not familiar with the area, our topography is a mix of desert and plains. When you think of the wide-open wild west featured in Western films with livestock dotting tan color grass prairie land and rolling tumbleweeds, that is a pretty accurate image of our region. Unfortunately, the rugged beauty of the region is the perfect environment for wildfires and the homes and structures in our communities are in the path of destruction.
Concerning your prayers, those are absolutely needed at this time, your prayers are more powerful than you know. Two verses speak loudly to me in this time of grief and give me hope for tomorrow and recovery for the region are: ?
- "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea." Psalm 46:1-2
- "We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed." 2 Corinthians 4:8-9
Anyone hoping to keep tabs on the situation in Hutchinson County specifically I recommend following the City of Borger / Hutchinson County Office of Emergency Management on Facebook as they are the most current and reliable source of accurate information including support and outreach efforts.?
Thank you for your vision, Gergely Bata
