Why are we so adamant about snake fence standards and complete perimeters? Exhibit A: a large Western Diamondback Rattlesnake we were called out to capture in a backyard with the handyman special attached to the fence. With the gates and expansion joints incomplete and other issues, the backyard had become an effective rattlesnake trap rather than a deterrent.

If you drive through the Suburbs of any city in America you are going to find fences, probably a lot of them. 45% of households in the states have a dog. With a dog comes the need to be able to let them out with out having to worry about them chasing a squirrel halfway across town. That's where the fences come in. Most of these fences you see in these neighborhoods are Pressure Treated or Cedar. Both decent options for the time they were installed. What ends up happening with these two options is the fence will eventually start to warp, twist, and rot. The expected life span of these is about 6 years if left unfinished. You can extend that to 10 years with quite a bit of maintenance. With the Thermally Modified Wood now gaining a solid foothold in America there is an option for solid natural wooden fences that will last 15-25 years unfinished, and wont have the anywhere close to the same warping, twisting, or rotting issues Cedar and Pressure Treated are prone to. Pictured below is a fence we installed in our yard at NORTHERN OHIO LUMBER & TIMBER using Arbor Wood Co. Thermally Modified Southern Yellow Pine. This was installed in early summer and even with all the rain and snow it has received it is still straight as an arrow. Expecting to see a lot more Thermally Modified Wooden fence in the Burbs in the months and years to come. #thermallymodifiedwood #fencing #LBM #lumber
