The Aftercare Program strides to aid in the recovery of those with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. While we implement a number of techniques for patient improvement, including cognitive training and exercise, we are always studying different approaches to help patients recover in a way that fits uniquely to them. Routinely, participants will be asked about their symptoms and how they are able to get along with others. As our team collects this data and tracks progress during treatment, we utilize a number of cognitive assessments remote and in-person in order to understand one’s symptoms, how their problems affect their recovery, and how our team may enhance their cognitive training to further improve their day-to-day lives. Ultimately, we are determined to obtain a better understanding of how the brain plays a role in attention, learning, and memory in psychotic disorders. At last week's #KennedyForum Meeting, Dr.Sam Nordberg said the following, highlighting the shortcomings of the depression bias perpetuated by the PHQ-9. “ Feeling all the feelings about being on stage at the Kennedy Center yesterday. It was an honor to talk about measurement-based care (MBC) in Behavioral Health with Thomas Insel MD and Margaret-Mary Wilson MD, MBA, MRCP, FNMCP at The Kennedy Forum's #Alignment4Progress meeting in DC. A few key points, if you'll all indulge me: 1. MBC is entirely within reach for most clinical practices, using technology we have today. 2. Measurement must be as complex as the patients we treat. PHQ-9s don't cut it. 3. MBC only has a future if we treat it as a vital clinical skill, not an administrative task. 4. It is not unreasonable for patients and other stakeholders to ask for transparent and valid outcomes assessments on the treatments we provide. Bottom line: If we are going to get better at treating behavioral health, we absolutely must get better at measuring what we do. Only by humbly and openly examining our current capabilities can we see where the opportunities for improvement lie.” The M3 addresses these vital needs with one easy-to-complete 3-minute assessment for symptoms of Anxiety (GAD, Panic, Social, and OCD), PTSD, Impairment, Bipolar Disorder, and depression. The results provide an overall rating of severity and complexity. Reporting in a lab test-like format, the results engage patients and clinicians and are immediately included in the EHR. #Behavioralhealth #Kennedyforum #mentalhealth #depression #clinicalresearch #M3

?? **Self-Discovery in Therapy: A Journey Beyond the Symptoms** ?? In therapy, it's common to begin with specific "presenting problems" — symptoms like anxiety, depression, or relationship struggles. But over time, many patients realize that these issues are deeply connected to their core selves. It’s not just about fixing what's wrong on the surface, but about understanding who they are on a fundamental level. As Nancy McWilliams and Jonathan Shedler put it so beautifully: _"Irrespective of overt 'presenting problems', many patients come to realize, as they participate in therapy, that their difficulties are inextricably tied to who they are."_ – McWilliams & Shedler, 2017. Therapy is not merely about symptom relief. It’s about the journey inward, understanding how deeply intertwined our challenges are with our identities, and fostering genuine growth and transformation. #MentalHealth #Therapy #SelfAwareness #Psychotherapy #NancyMcWilliams #JonathanShedler #PsychologicalGrowth #MentalHealthAwareness
