?? "Open innovation is a term used to promote an information age mindset toward innovation that runs counter to the secrecy and silo mentality of traditional corporate research labs. The benefits and driving forces behind increased openness have been noted and discussed as far back as the 1960s, especially as it pertains to interfirm cooperation in R&D. Use of the term 'open innovation' in reference to the increasing embrace of external cooperation in a complex world has been promoted in particular by Henry Chesbrough, adjunct professor and faculty director of the Center for Open Innovation of the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business." #openinnovation

?? Curiosity and a passion for interdisciplinary learning have always driven my journey. From biochemistry to industrial design and computer science, and now leading a startup incubation project, I’ve embraced challenges and opportunities that push boundaries. These experiences have shown me that it's often in moments of doubt that the most groundbreaking ideas and accomplishments are born. ? Read more about my journey here [ https://lnkd.in/da93eSNg].

The changing of the guard... It's what happens when you pivot... It's what happens when you invent... It's what happens when you approach conventional problems with unconventional ideas... It's what happens when you're so familiar with failure that you've married focus, grit, and foresight. Innovation is not easy. Invention is not easy. Innovention is no where close. Strategy is. But it's all teachable. When you embrace a Zen mind and beginners mind. This year, the top innovators in the country are stepping down in Kentucky for Innovate 2024. Come learn from pioneers, trailblazers, and Icons across multiple industries. The whose who who are the standard. Would love to to see you this May in Kentucky. Let's innovate...????????

In the realm of creativity and innovation, why do organizations sign up for predictability when every major invention or market disruption was unpredictable? Learn how to harness the power of the unpredictable to create a true culture of innovation in the "Innovation Eats Predictability for Lunch" white paper by Jeff Mortimer and Archie Woods. https://lnkd.in/ezi-hQR3

We hear the word 'innovative" all the time, but what does it really mean? Love this quote from MIchael B. Horn: “It doesn’t count as innovation if it doesn’t actually help people make progress.” We write about innovation in schools, and what that looks like around the country, in our latest blog post. Just a couple of months ago, a Yale School of Management and Yale School of the Environment joint degree student gave me the perfect answer when I asked her who would be the ideal person to speak on campus about supporting and accelerating climate tech innovation. Without hesitation, she said "Dawn Lippert at Elemental Excelerator". And I was happy to respond that she should immediately go register for the Yale University Innovation Summit to hear Dawn speak. Under Dawn's leadership, Elemental Excelerator has invested in over 150 startups across industries like energy, water, mobility, industry, agriculture, and nature-based solutions. These companies have raised over $8 billion in follow-on funding, driving innovation and equitable climate solutions. It's a model that prioritizes social equity, with many portfolio companies serving low- and moderate-income communities. As an alumna of Yale University and the Yale School of the Environment, Dawn left a lasting imprint on this place. She's cited by faculty and the administration as the dot on the horizon for current students to aim for, and for good reason. She's a human magnet for good ideas and people, who leads and motivates networks of organizations, and is also deeply invested in teaching and sharing everything that she learns along the way. We are deeply grateful that she is making the trip back to New Haven to speak at the upcoming Yale Innovation Summit w/Jahi Wise Nancy Pfund and Richard Kauffman Join us for what promises to be an inspiring and thought-provoking couple of days at the end of May. https://lnkd.in/em5Wr-Md Yale Ventures Amir Chireh Mehr Samantha Grassle Kim Karris Josh Geballe Amy Kundrat, MBA Jaime Carlson Adrian Deveny Brandon Middaugh Gordon Geballe Todd Cort Dan Esty #ClimateTech, #Innovation, #Leadership, #Sustainability, #SocialEquity, and #ClimateSolutions. #YaleInnovationSummit

Last Reminder: Please join us on Monday, June 24, 2024, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. ET, as we discuss the key findings from our recent study, The Role of Trust in Advancing Equity in Innovation. The study shows that barriers to equity in innovation underscore the urgent need to build trust within the innovation ecosystem to safeguard U.S. global technology leadership. The study also provides a roadmap for closing inventor diversity gaps by increasing knowledge and awareness of patents and resources available to inventors, expanding access to service providers and resources for inventors, improving workplace culture, and adopting policies and practices at institutions that facilitate idea-sharing. Panelists: Jessica Milli, Research 2 Impact Holly Fechner, Invent Together & Covington & Burling LLP Breann Branch, Ph.D., Research 2 Impact Margo Bagley, Emory University School of Law Moderated by Andrei Iancu, CSIS Register here: https://bit.ly/4e3k9zq Read the report here: https://bit.ly/3Vpqwor

?? Excited to have had the opportunity to present our latest research at the Berkeley Open Innovation Seminar! ?? Our paper, "Heterogeneity in Organizational Search Behaviors: The Case of Corporate Venture Capital Units," (co-authored with Raj Shankar and Magnus Schückes) explores how #CorporateVentureCapital (CVC) units operate along two distinct pathways—order‐taker or free‐bird. Through a qualitative study of five CVC units, we found that the #locusofproblemformulation plays a pivotal role in shaping search behaviors. ?? Order‐takers respond to predefined, corporate-driven problem formulations, while free‐birds allow the venture market to guide their search process. These differences in search behaviors reflect how CVC units pursue unique problem-solution pairs. The feedback and discussions with both researchers and practitioners on the implications of these findings for open innovation and organizational search literature were incredibly interesting A big thank you to everyone involved in making this event so enriching! ?? I love the energy of a classroom... Last week I had a chance to teach a class on corporate innovation at George Washington Business School. We explored the transformative role of deep tech in foundational industries like transport and energy - emphasizing the critical role industry-leading businesses play in the uptake of new innovations, and how that’s not just good for the world, but also (very) good for business. #CorporateInnovation #DeepTech #ClimateTech #GWBusinessSchool
