Did you recently buy electronics on deep discounts? And has it stopped working after a few days/weeks? If YES, there is something going on. Industry insider shared behind-the-scenes story with me. Manova (disguised name) is an electronics brand. Manova sells laptops via small and BIG retailers, online + offline. Laptops from BIG retailer has better offers, deep discounts than small retailer. But their quality may be low. Why? Small retailer: no bargaining power, cannot buy high quantity from Manova. Manova tells the small retailer: “I can give a margin of 5% - take it or leave it”. BIG retailer?has?bargaining power. Asks for 25% margin from Manova, orders a batch of 50K laptops. What does Manova do? Sell regular laptops to small retailer & order “special batch”?50K laptops to supplier. Supplier is instructed to make the “special batch” at a lower cost. To reduce costs, parts from other devices are used. Parts are not new, not tested well, likely to fail later. This batch is sold to BIG retailer at the margin they want. You buy your stuff at a deep discount from that BIG retailer. Parts begin to fail, and problems start appearing in a few days or weeks. So, laptops from BIG retailer during promotions happen to be of lower quality. Is this true for all products, all brands, all retailers? NO! Some of them do, many of them don’t OR Many of them do, some of them don’t. Anyway, this practice exists and the product you recently bought may belong to this “special batch”! ?? Although this represents a 30% decrease compared to the previous month, it signifies a recovery with a 12% increase year-over-year (YoY). Among the April shipments, #Quanta and #Lenovo experienced the largest declines, with decreases of 42% and 35% respectively.
