Nigerian fintech Billboxx secures $1.6 million in a pre-seed round #Billboxx, a Nigerian #fintech addressing the cash flow challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), has raised $1.6 million in a pre-seed funding round. The funding, a combination of debt and equity, was secured from Norrsken Accelerator, Kaleo Ventures, 54 Collective, P2Vest, and Afrinovation Ventures. Founded in 2023 by Justus Obaoye and Abdulazeez Ogunjobi, the company is positioning itself as a financial lifeline for SMEs across Africa. Billboxx specializes in invoice financing, enabling SMEs to receive advance payments while waiting for their larger enterprise clients to settle invoices. With transaction fees of 1.5% and invoice financing fees up to 5%, the platform has processed over ?1 billion monthly without defaults. Beyond invoice financing, the company provides business banking tools to help SMEs streamline their financial management, addressing inefficiencies often seen in manual or Excel-based processes. The fintech’s innovative model relies on partnerships with large enterprises to onboard SMEs, with existing clients including Monument Distillers and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA). This targeted focus on SMEs differentiates Billboxx from competitors that prioritize mid-market to enterprise businesses. According to Obaoye, the ultimate goal is to establish Billboxx as the financial operating system for SMEs across Africa. With this funding, Billboxx plans to scale operations, enhance its product suite, and expand its presence across the continent. The company is also preparing to launch a feature aimed at connecting SMEs with new market opportunities within corporate ecosystems, further solidifying its role in Africa’s growing fintech market.
