It’s back-to-school time! There is a goal setting worksheet in this link for youth that I really like. It is a mental health resource to help a teen evaluate their skills and needs to write any goal. As parents we often help our children achieve their goals, by managing the short term goals for them. We arrange or schedule the incremental activities they need to achieve this goal. They put in the work, we help them get there. It is helpful to demonstrate these activities, but teaching them to evaluate themselves, manage their goal setting and activities to achieve their goals themselves holds lifelong value for work and play.
Looking for ways to empower youth mental health this back-to-school season? ?? Mental Health America is thrilled to announce that our 2024 #SupportingYoungMinds Resource Guide is available to download for free today! https://lnkd.in/e_SG_tW7 The core theme of this year’s toolkit is EMPOWERMENT – how adults can support young people to help them feel empowered, and how youth can feel empowered to support each other’s #mentalhealth. Inside, you’ll find tools for parents, caregivers, educators, and young people to work together to improve youth mental health. We’ll also be sharing more resources on social media all September, so stay tuned! Learn more and download the free guide at https://lnkd.in/e_SG_tW7

New mental health service Uwill offers more benefits ???? ??: Aimable Rutayisire, guest writer for The Vantage Newman University saw some changes to its online therapy program this year when its previous service provider, Virtual Care Group, was bought out by competitor Uwill over the summer. “We are super happy to partner with Uwill,” said Ivy Annen, Newman’s mental health coordinator. “They are much more user-friendly and give many more benefits for the students.” Uwill is an online therapy program that is free for all students, Annen said, and it can help them deal with homesickness, stress and other mental health challenges. ?? Supporting Our Children's Mental Well-Being in the New Year ?? As we enter a new year, it's crucial to focus on the mental well-being of our children. Here are some ways we can support them: 1. Open Communication: Create a safe space for them to express their feelings and thoughts. Regularly check in and listen actively. 2. Encourage Healthy Habits: Promote balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and adequate sleep. These are foundational for mental health. 3. Model Resilience: Show them how to handle stress and setbacks with a positive attitude. Your example can be a powerful teaching tool. 4. Foster a Growth Mindset: Celebrate their efforts and progress, not just outcomes. Encourage them to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. 5. Support their Interests: Engage with their hobbies and passions. It boosts their confidence and provides a healthy outlet for stress. 6. Seek Professional Help if Needed: Don’t hesitate to reach out to counselors or therapists if your child needs additional support. By actively nurturing their mental health, we set our children up for a successful and fulfilling year. Let’s commit to being their strongest advocates and allies in 2024. #MentalHealth #Parenting #ChildDevelopment #SupportOurChildren #NewYearNewGoals
