This is a beautiful story of how a few people made a big difference. The seabed was ravaged by over fishing and eventually declared an ocean desert. But when left alone, the ecosystem recovered and nearby fishing areas became more productive. This highlights the importance of protected areas. They will help support local economies by making the ecosystem healthier. All life is interconnected and ecosystem health helps humanity thrive, not just the forests and the fish. Do conservatives get this principle that Indigenous people have known for thousands of years? Clearly, the answer is no. https://lnkd.in/d5Kd22Cs A selfish focus on taking from nature for personal and corporate profits creates deserts or eco-farms devoid of biodiversity. We have to start taking responsibility for our actions. The economy and affordability is not more important than healthy natural systems. Nature's health and our health are codependent. Extractive resource industries are depleting our world, polluting the air we breath and poisoning the water that gives us life. Dear people, conservatism is not the cure for your worries, wants and needs. Conservationism is the cure. Selfless protection of nature and each other is the solution. War is pointless, costly and obsolete. Our fossil-fuel-based energy system is slowly destroying the Earth's life support system. We need nature to flourish if we want to survive as a healthy, well-adjusted species. And all we need to do is stop causing harm. Leave it be and nature will take its course. Consider this the next time you tick a ballot. A tax break will not save us from ourselves. #conservationism #protection #notakezone #protect30x30 #interconnectedness #codependency #nature Phillip Meintzer Festus Kiplagat Natalie Odd Emily McMillan Katharine Hayhoe The Nature Conservancy Greenpeace Sierra Club BC Sierra Club Ancient Forest Alliance Ken Wu Nerdy About Nature TJ Watt David Suzuki Foundation Cameron Esler Calgary Climate Hub Colin Smith Kerry Ross Heather Morigeau Judi Vandenbrink Nature Magazine The Nature Conservancy Asia Pacific The Nature Conservancy in California Oliver Dauert Saadiq Mohiuddin, P.Eng.Claire KraatzGerald WheatleySeth KleinJOHN VAILLANTLubomila JordanovaSimeon RoseElena DomsYair ReemNatalie Fleming https://lnkd.in/ddKU_eDk

#GreenInfrastructure & the critical connection to #water resources
Chair of Water Infrastructure Practice, Banner Public Affairs, bannerpublicaffairs.com || Founder and CEO, Safe Water Voters, safewatervoters.com
Green infrastructure is not only beneficial to the communities surrounding it, but is also crucial in protecting our water resources. Groups like the National Recreation and Park Association are working hard to ensure green infrastructure, recreation space, and water access are mutually beneficial, and this waterloop episode demonstrates just how amazing that work is! https://lnkd.in/eT3eAXVh

When a substantial amount of the world is water, it becomes quite vital for it to be kept clean. Projects like ocean cleanup certainly paves the way. It is important for us to realise that while making projects like this saves the future, in order to save the present we need to stop throwing garbage, waste etc. into our oceans and lakes and seas... It is time to be the change ??
We have deployed 7 Interceptors in all of Kingston Harbour gullies to prevent an estimated 900 tons of trash from flowing yearly into the harbour and into the oceans. Our River deployments act as catalysts within a community - intercepting plastic and providing solutions while enabling a community to drive systemic change further upstream. This collaborative format, built around the impact of our Interceptors not only on trash but also on education, awareness, and motivation, is the optimal way forward: both for the communities that make it possible for us to clean up, and for the oceanic, coastal and riverine environments we strive to protect.
