This is a good read on the importance of resilience for USSPACECOM's diverse workforce. According to RAND, as the command reaches full operational capability and finalizes plans to establish a permanent headquarters, it faces multiple challenges to fostering workforce resilience and mitigating harmful workplace behaviors. USSPACECOM's workforce is roughly divided among military personnel (34%), civilian employees (32%), and contractors (34%), each with a different chain of command, training requirements, and processes for reporting harmful workplace behaviors. You envelope scenarios in a gripping emotional story with characters that can take your audience on the journey to imagine what might happen in future. You employ the tool called #speculativefiction. If you do it often enough and well enough, your will overcome any doubt of non-believers (of the speculative fiction story telling). If you encounter resistance, then perhaps an example from the #US #Air Force might help. The students at Air University, an institution that runs educational programmes for employees of the American air and space forces seems to agree. ? Blue Horizons course encourages students to think creatively about how to improve the #US Air Force (#usaf) through writing #speculative #fiction. For the past six years, Blue Horizons has invited Peter Singer and August Cole, founders of a company called Useful Fiction, to turn air-force officers into sci-fi authors. Singer and Cole think that decision-makers are more likely to sit up and listen if #future threats, and the methods to combat them, are presented in a gripping story rather than in a plodding report. ?? “Developing new space capabilities, organizations, and trained professional soldiers to deliver effects for Army maneuver forces is critical to multi-domain operations,” according to the Army Space Vision. “Rapid proliferation and tactical application of competitor space capabilities will erode the advantages that ensure U.S. land dominance. To counter this challenge, current and future Army space integration and interdiction capabilities must enable multi-domain operations for the Army.” The Army of 2030 will be asked to sense farther and share data more than ever, Atkinson said. “When we think about what an Army of 2030 … must do, … we talk about the ability to sense farther, … being able to concentrate lethal forces across the globe, delivering precise, long-range fires, sustaining the fight, protecting our forces and then communicating and sharing data across wide ranges,” he said. “Almost every one of those areas that the Army of 2030 needs to do is somehow enabled by space, directly [or] indirectly.” https://lnkd.in/dbQ4C3Tg

Over at the US Marine Corps' Press, this article "Breaking the Newtonian Fetish" addresses how and why our modern military fixates on conceptualizing war through mechanistic, objective, and Newtonian frameworks. Here, I argue how we might change this through exploring alternative ways to model, frame, and conceptualize. Abstract:?Explaining what a military’s social paradigm concerning conflict and war is requires a theoretical approach to both frame the core constructs and offer feasible alternatives. This article introduces social paradigm theory for military application and how most modern, technologically advanced militaries sustain a Newtonian-styled worldview concerning warfare and what constitutes war. The Newtonian-styled war paradigm gained prominence during the last five centuries, yet is now becoming increasingly insufficient and possibly irrelevant. The integration of ever-increasingly sophisticated artificial intelligence into nearly all aspects of warfare will require new ways of thinking and how teams of humans and AI systems collaborate in complex security contexts immediately. The new combination of the space domain, cyberspace, those military forces associated with these new domains, and special operations activities are of increased focus for how and why conflict may change, particularly within an overarching traditional nuclear deterrence between state competitors. This requires a military paradigmatic shift, moving away from Newtonian constructs.
