When we co-founded the Scale-up Masterclass a few years ago with Vlerick Business School, we did it because we had one goal: to help founders avoid mistakes. Many successful startups in our portfolio have gone through a ????-?????????????? ?????????????? and emerged even stronger! Here is the data Of the 76 startups we’ve backed over the past 7 years, 28 have experienced a co-founder breakup. Of the 28, 15 started with 3 or more co-founders, leaving 13 as solo founders Are these 28 companies performing worse than the rest of our portfolio? Not at all. There’s no correlation, and some breakups occurred during times of significant growth! Though challenging, breakups can result in a clearer vision, an aligned leadership team, growth potential for existing/new talent, and conflict resolution in the work environment. great discussion yesterday with Sajith Pai, Kushal Bhagia and Anmol Maini at Sandhill Markets - here were my top 5 takeaways: 1. some emerging Indian startup mafias are Flipkart, Paytm, Freshworks, Zoho, Urban Company. 2. much of Indian early-stage venture funding flows through university networks, unlike the US. two main networks are IIT Delhi and Bombay. Kushal Bhagia even likened IIT Delhi to India's Stanford. 3. Indian early-stage funding market has a lot of 'dark deal flow' that goes on in private networks, and investors over-rely on company and university signals. 4. there are two Indian early-stage funding markets—one for vc fluent founders and one for the nonfluent ones. 5. funding rounds for the vc fluent founders are getting closer to similar stage rounds in the US, in value. for the nonfluent ones, a US Pre-Seed is Indian Seed, a US Seed is Indian Series A, and so on.

PMF, start-ups must read,check it out

PMF is THE key to an early-stage startup's success, and we find that it takes much longer than anticipated. I believe the first few years are critical to have a great team of mentors and a few employees around the founders to determine PMF and iterate the solution to stay competitive, and faster.
