Never meet your heroes etc etc… Had a great time at MAD//FEST this week, presenting on the creativity stage, and then getting to hear from (and briefly meet in a very uncool ‘I love you I love your stuff I’ve seen all your shows please can I have a photo please!’ moment) Eddie Izzard. Eddie was interviewed on stage about creativity, and made some really interesting points: - Think sideways. Dont just look at something and think ‘oh, that’s that thing’. Look at it and think ‘oh, what could that be? What if it wasn’t that? What would happen if…’ - The importance of social purpose in organisations. ‘By all means, make profit, but whilst you’re doing it, try and make the world a better place, too’ - If youre afraid of something - say, public speaking - do it until you’re not afraid of it anymore (doesn’t apply to being afraid of falling onto a spike) - The importance of setbacks on building character, and having the ‘determination gene’ not to wait until someone lets you do something, but to just go and do it yourself. - Set out only to impress yourself. That’s enough.
