Last night was one for the books as the Melbourne Chinatown Comedy Club joined in celebrating the Mid Autumn Festival at 'The Couch – International Student Centre.' Thanks to a hilarious set by William Wang, we not only shared our mission of spreading laughter but also introduced live comedy to an audience that might not have experienced it before. The evening was filled with a cultural fashion parade, live performances, food mooncakes, making it a fun night! A big shoutout to Nicolas Ojeda Amador for introducing us to the Couch team and to Gary Lee OAM (IEAA-SF), Mary M Mai, and Yi-Mae for their warm welcome and collaboration. It was wonderful connecting with everyone! We also debuted our new CCC embroidered jumpers with our fresh logo. Thank you, Dawn Rachel from DRY Concepts, for the fantastic logo and Embedded Memories for the stylish jumpers! About The Couch: Located at The Salvation Army Melbourne Project 614, 69 Bourke Street, The Couch is a City of Melbourne initiative and offers international students a safe space to socialise, learn, and engage in local culture through events and volunteering opportunities, from 6 PM to 8:30 PM, Monday to Thursday. Thank you to everyone who made last night so memorable! Follow The Couch on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with upcoming events and opportunities. If you care about the performing arts and artists—and want both to thrive—we collectively have to do more to encourage, justify and reward corporate support of the arts. 1. Let businesses know that you value their current support of the arts whether writing a letter, telling a manager/owner, commenting on social media, and, of course, spending money with them. 2. Encourage the businesses you interact with in your day-to-day life to consider supporting your favourite performing arts organizations. Whether it’s your dentist, florist, bank, etc.—support can come in all sizes. 3. For arts organizations and artists, though we always hope support will come through due to a genuine love for the arts, we need to get real about why a business would offer support. This means creating sponsorships pathways that offer value-for-money and create genuine win-wins for all. A logo slapped in a program or a website is not going to be enough anymore. At a time when corporate support, as well as private support, are rapidly declining—we need to be creative, flexible and bold. #supportthearts #corporatesponsorship #performingarts #getcreative #valueformoney

We hope you will enjoy the trailers for this thoughtful film called "The Ride Ahead." From the movie website, "Samuel Habib is a typical 21-year-old, itching to move out, start a career and find love. But no one tells you how to be an adult, let alone an adult with a disability. Can a community of disability activists help him follow his dreams?" Learn more about this film at https://lnkd.in/d-bwFeZw.

Are you doing #Kenough? Ryan Gosling's live performance of "I'm Just Ken" at the Oscars lends some great inspiration for buzzworthy resident events. The editor-in-chief of Multi-Housing News, Jessica Fiur, shares the following: "Having fun and doing events that are a little wacky, or having social media campaigns that are a little flashy are going to be what your residents remember, what they’ll share on social media and what they’ll tell their friends, who might be convinced to take a look at your apartments themselves, all of which can encourage lease renewals and new renters." So from costume karaoke to murder mystery games, what kinds of resident event ideas do you have up your sleeve? #residentevents #apartmentliving #apartmentmarketing

?? Exciting News, Challenging Outcome for Fredericksburg's Own ?? As professionals and community members, we often celebrate the successes of those who emerge from our ranks to achieve great things. One such example is the talented Huntley, who soared to victory on NBC's "The Voice" Season 24. The community had been buzzing with anticipation for the "Huntley Homecoming" event, a testament to what one of our own had accomplished and a chance to bring people together in celebration. However, sometimes even the best-laid plans face hurdles. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the much-anticipated homecoming event has been canceled for the second time. It’s a moment that reflects the challenges in aligning community activities with the complexities of schedules and expectations. While the official report cites scheduling conflicts, Huntley's message to his fans offers a different perspective, hinting at a broader vision for the event that goes beyond the usual pomp and circumstance—a vision focused on inclusivity and genuine community engagement. Despite this setback, the spirit of community and shared success remains undimmed. Huntley's response underlines his commitment to his roots and sets the stage for a future event that promises to capture his heartfelt intention to celebrate with all of Fredericksburg. These developments serve as a reminder of the delicate balance between celebrating achievements and managing the practicalities of event planning. It's a dialogue between success, expectations, and the realities of community organization—a theme that many of us can relate to in our professional and civic lives. Let’s keep our eyes peeled for what’s to come and continue to support each other’s successes, both big and small, as we navigate through complex situations toward the ultimate goal: strengthening the bonds within our communities. ?????? #CommunitySpirit #LocalTalent #EventPlanning #VoiceofFredericksburg https://ayr.app/l/1rTW

Channel 4 News revealed new research last night showing that just 8% of people working in TV and film and 16% of people in music and performing arts are from working class backgrounds – the worst these figures have been in a decade. 90% of people in the arts are white, 70% in managerial positions are men and just 1% of those managers are black. When we are seemingly so much more aware of the need for more diversity and inclusion and the benefits it can bring, how are things getting worse instead of better? https://lnkd.in/eD87an6v I’d say I’m shocked, but actually I’m not. In a world where it’s not what you know but who you know and when the government have stripped away so much essential arts funding in this country, how can people from underrepresented backgrounds with zero connections and more barriers to entry than ever expect to make it in a career in the arts?? With such a narrow demographic responsible for bringing stories to stage, screen, radio etc, quite frankly the output from the arts is going to get a whole lot shitter. Thankfully organisations like Arts Emergency exist – they work with young people from underrepresented backgrounds in London, Brighton, Merseyside and Greater Manchester and help them to break into the arts – donate to support if you can https://lnkd.in/e4HmDS2f And if any arts organisations or brands need help from a comms agency powered by working class people to help reach more people from working class backgrounds – hit me up!
