The TikTok whiplash effect: The rapid swings in TikTok's situation has created a genuine sense of uncertainty and not just for those in the US. Here's my take-aways from the last week: ?? Keep an eye on channel growth and migration of audiences. Instagram and YouTube (Shorts) have done very well for those that are still looking to prioritise short-form but could it be time to switch focus to long-form content with YouTube being a safer home for your content? ?? Organic will rise in 2025 as discoverability is being prioritised. To compete with TikTok, other platforms are pushing smaller creators like never before. There’s never been a better time to start posting. ?? Diversity with owned platforms: The ban was a wake-up call. If you’re not diversifying social media with owned platform activity, you're leaving yourself open to risk. The lesson? Platform-proof your business. This won’t be the last political PR storm we see that impacts social media and TikTok is still unclear. For businesses with a significant American customer base which is lots of you the ban could sever a critical channel for sales and engagement. TikTok’s algorithm provides unique organic reach that is difficult to replicate on other platforms so yes it could cause panic. It was about to play a huge part in my marketing plans for this year! The situation is evolving, and it’s understandable that you may feel uncertain about the future if you rely heavily on this platform but you can take proactive steps now to minimise potential disruptions and maintain a strong connection with your audience.
