When motivations are so personal, it’s impossible to ignore the impact; positive or negative of previous life experience on the volunteers we work with and what this means for their long term volunteering ambitions

Genuine impact or mere recognition? ??♀? At Prabhav Trust, our approach is rooted in understanding the unique challenges. We don't impose our solutions on the communities we are honoured to help. Instead, we seek to understand and respond to their specific needs. During our recent survey drives in various slums, we were welcomed warmly, yet faced a recurring concern: Are we here to genuinely help or just take pictures? We recognise the importance of documentation, but is that our primary goal? Our recent collaboration with another NGO to provide emotional wellness sessions and the survey drive itself were met with skepticism. Many parents didn't send their kids, doubting our intentions. (As quoted by a child in conversation with our founder) This distrust is further compounded by other NGOs refusing to collaborate with us when it doesn't serve their purpose of gaining social media traction. We, as most other NGOs ensure that we revisit the same places, working on long term solutions and building trust within the community. But regaining lost faith is a tricky challenge. Dear NGOs, social workers and volunteers, we must reflect on our true purpose. The difficulties encountered by foster parents and kinship caregivers—including stress, isolation, and financial pressure—can create instability for the children they care for. When caregivers lack sufficient support, they may find it hard to create a stable and nurturing home, leading to frequent relocations, interrupted education, and emotional or behavioral issues. Our programs are designed to assist caregivers in overcoming these challenges through purposeful giving, building relationships, and providing mentorship.
