Okay, maybe it’s not so much of a secret, but it’s a good reminder!\Repurposing content not only helps you get more mileage out of a great content piece, but it also makes sure that you’re reaching your audience in the way that’s most appealing to them. Not sure how to repurpose? Here are 3 ideas to get you started: ?? Turn your blog post into a carousel: Take the main points from your post, break them out into individual graphics, and share them on LinkedIn. ?? Turn your podcast episode into Reels: Snag the most clip-worthy parts of your podcast episode and turn them into a video for Instagram. Don’t forget to caption them for the 85% of people who watch without sound! ?? Edit your ebook into blog posts: When you’ve got pages of research, tips, and learnings in an ebook, you’ve also got as many blog posts as your heart desires. Pull out the most timely information, optimize for SEO, and get that on your blog. What is your content marketing strategy? Do you have one? Are you posting on your social channels? Writing blog posts? Running webinars? Making a podcast? Are these tactics connected? If you answered “I don’t have one.” and “No.” to my first two questions. And you answered “Yes.” to any of the other questions — you’re spending valuable time and resources in an uncoordinated and disconnected way. Don’t worry. You can build a coordinated and connected content plan. First, decide who your target audience is. They should be based on your ideal customer profile (ICP). Then, determine where you can find them online. Do they listen to podcasts? Are they technical and read long-form articles or white papers? Finally, figure out what they want to learn more about. Add real value for them by creating content that is relevant and useful to the challenges they’re facing or questions they have. Once you have all of that, create a calendar of content and a work -back plan to produce and distribute it. Include the channels, the themes of the content, the assets you’ll need and give yourself the time (and identify the resources) to produce that content. Spend time understanding your channel choices and the best-performing content on those channels. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery — copy what works and tailor your content to each channel you use. And don’t try to do everything all at once. Have a testing plan that lets you try out content and channel pairs to figure out what works for your business, product or brand. The hardest part: don’t give up too quickly. Stay at it consistently for at least a full quarter. Nothing worthwhile can be accomplished quickly and easily. This is true for content marketing too. Now go make something great for your audience! Is your content just sitting there collecting dust? These are the EXACT 3 content assets I look at with new clients. Read on to learn what content you should be repurposing ASAP for maximum results. Many business founders are sitting on content goldmines without even realizing it. That’s because they’re not approaching content marketing with a “distribution-first” mindset. They create the most amazing, valuable content, share it once, and call it a day. Sure it might get some results... But then it just sits there collecting dust. Whether it’s a blog post, podcast episode, eBook, or anything else… Big mistake. (I actually think regardless of the content type, you can ALWAYS share it more than once. Of course, just not the same post word-for-word. But that’s another topic.) Now, what are the best content assets for content repurposing? Let’s take a look: 1. Case studies. My personal favorite. Great way to instantly generate leads without much effort. Right now, you can go back to your website, look at the case studies page, and: - Repurpose full case study into carousel - Create 3-5 different one-off posts with main insights and what you learned - Create “hand-raiser” testimonial posts with a strong CTA 2. Personal stories What makes you different from everyone else? Your story is your greatest asset. Because you can use this to come across as more relatable, approachable, an expert, or anything else. Even if this has NOTHING to do with your business accomplishments. People love to work with people they like and get along with. So, be sure to repurpose your stories into one-off posts. Highlighting what you learned, personal values, and a soft CTA at the end. 3. Podcasts I’ve written a post about how you can get a month’s worth of content with just 4 podcast episodes. Basically, here’s what you can do: - Repurpose full podcast story into an article - Repurpose that into an email newsletter and then LinkedIn carousel - Repurpose into 5-7 different one-off text posts (focus on what the guest shared, what you learned, and other unique insights) Some other ideal content assets for repurposing include webinars, testimonials, blog posts, eBooks, giveaways, and more. Got an awesome piece of content that you feel could be a bit more useful? Or are you looking to create content that you can use in more than one way? Blog posts are great for providing a lot of information on a particular topic and boosting your organic website traffic, but did you know they can often be repurposed to use on different platforms? For example, one blog post on a topic of value could be converted into: 1. A series of social media posts, highlighting individual points/sub heads. 2. An infographic, such as a graph, flowchart or info sheet. 3. A video or videos, or short podcasts. 4. An ebook, if you want to go into even more detail. If you have different audiences spread over different platforms, such as social media and newsletter subscribers, this is a great way to reach all of them with the same information. Some of these can even be used as ‘opt-in’ freebies, to boost your email list or followers.
