Children who have DLD can experience many challenges in different modalities of communication. Speech pathologists must understand these to provide their clients with appropriate management strategies. Some common challenges children with DLD may experience are: 1. Receptive Language (Comprehension): following instructions, understanding specific vocabulary, understanding and answering? questions and following conversations; 2. Expressive Language (Talking): correct grammar and sentence structure, finding the right words, saying thoughts clearly and organising ideas, joining in and participating in conversations. These difficulties may result in the child producing sentences that are hard to follow, storytelling in a disorganised manner and difficulty conversing with others.
