A personalized second opinion for cancer at a US medical center involves a comprehensive review of your medical records by a team of expert oncologists. This expert panel will analyze your diagnosis, treatment plan, and any additional relevant information to provide a detailed and unbiased assessment. The process typically includes: * Medical Record Review: Your medical records, including pathology reports, imaging studies, and treatment history, will be thoroughly examined by the medical team. * Teleconsultation or In-Person Visit: You may have the opportunity to discuss your case with a specialist via telemedicine or in person, depending on your preference and the complexity of your situation. * Personalized Treatment Recommendations: Based on the expert review, you will receive a detailed report outlining the recommended treatment plan, including any alternative options or clinical trials that may be suitable for your specific case. * Ongoing Support: The medical center may offer ongoing support, including coordination with your local healthcare providers and access to additional resources as needed. By obtaining a second opinion, you can gain peace of mind, ensure that your treatment plan is aligned with the latest medical advancements, and make informed decisions about your care. . . . . #Cancer #oncologist #oncologists #cancertreatment #healthcare #health #treatment #secondopinion #remotesecondopinion #remote #virtual #crossbordercare

Such an important topic discussed today at #NORDSummit. The lack of standardized tools in rare disease research, and the feeling among patients that their data goes into a "black hole" shows that innovative approaches are needed desperately for rare disease communities. Direct input from patients to design better methods to measure their varied disease experiences, and making that data available to support better care decisions would be a great starting point to #MeasureWhatMattersMost in rare diseases!
Patient data is one of our most powerful tools. This #NORDSummit panel, "Enhancing the Power of Patient Data," featured so many great quotes: Jill Kiernan from the Tatton Brown Rahman Syndrome (TBRS) Community Inc. said, "Our patient registry actually helped save a child’s life by identifying a critical heart issue that required surgery. It’s a clear example of how vital patient data can be." Dr. Kim Smith of FDA CDER said, "Patient-reported outcomes, like surveys on symptoms, are critical, especially for #RareDiseases where we lack standardized tools to measure the true patient experience." Dr. Rosa Sherafat-Kazemzadeh of #FDA CBER elaborated, "Natural history studies are crucial, especially in rare diseases, as they provide context for how a disease progresses without intervention, shaping our product development strategy." Dr. Yasmine Wasfi of Savara Inc. emphasized the importance of continued, transparent communication with patients: "Patients often feel like their data goes into a black hole after #ClinicalTrials, which is why we’ve started generating lay summaries and making data more accessible and transparent... By setting up patient advisory boards, we learned that even simple feedback—like sharing enrollment updates and intended publications—can build patient trust and engagement."

Patients benefit enormously from research and innovation, with breakthroughs enabling prevention of ill-health, earlier diagnosis, more effective treatments, better outcomes and faster recovery.?Here at the National Centre for Stereotactic?Radiosurgery,?research?is paramount;?reviewing?clinical?and patient?data supports best practice,??provides routes to new treatments,?highlights diagnostic patterns and?this?information?helps?patients make informed decisions about their care. This work may also influence NHS funding decisions which can directly impact the availability of some treatments for specific pathologies. As a centre with almost 40 years experience treating many rare conditions with the latest Elekta technology, we regularly carry out clinical audit, service evaluation and research projects . The use of anonymised data from both the treatment and follow-up of patients is often used in these activities. Research has,?for example,?guided?international?treatment of large Arteriovenous Malformations?but also regularly drives service developments such as the use and benefits of trans-radial cerebral angiography within the service. Our department’s publications can be viewed in more detail at?https://lnkd.in/gHHqzCmy Patients are fully informed of the research ethos within the service and are able to opt out of their data being used at any time by simply informing one of our team who would then update their records to?reflect?this?decision. Our information booklets provide more information to patients on how research is used within the service and we hope that this reassures patients and their families as to how, why and when their data may be used. ? To enrich the?data, we?gather from within our service we may also?request?additional data from NHS England, or?other?governmental?bodies. Before?doing this, we apply?to the Health Research Authority's Confidentiality Advisory Group?for support?to use?limited?patient identifiable data without individual consent. This is called a Section 251 application and is mainly used for large studies of many hundreds or thousands of patients?. Again,?it is important that our patients know that this occurs and that they can opt out of any of their data being used by any NHS Trust at any time by completing a simple?declaration?at?https://lnkd.in/gFUPwtwN ? The feasibility of delivering cardiac brief intervention to patients following ST-elevation myocardial infarction: Protocol for a pilot randomised controlled trial Feasibility of Cardiac Brief Intervention for ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction Patients Key Points: Patients often experience emotional distress and misconceptions after a heart attack. This study aims to assess the feasibility of providing a nurse-led, 20-minute emotional and educational support discussion, along with a memory-aid leaflet, to patients before discharge from the hospital. Participants will be recruited from two hospital centers in Northern Ireland, with half receiving the intervention and the other half receiving standard care information. Data will be collected at various time points to evaluate the intervention’s impact and feasibility. The study aims to address the educational and emotional challenges faced by heart attack patients, with the potential to improve cardiac rehabilitation participation and patient outcomes. Value of Clinical Trials and AI in Healthcare Practical Solutions: Clinical trials play a crucial role in developing safe and effective treatments, and it’s important to integrate their benefits into everyday medical practice. Our AI-driven platform, DocSym, consolidates clinical standards, protocols, and research, providing clinicians with a comprehensive knowledge base. In today’s healthcare environment, streamlining operations is essential. 2 Hour Live Talk with access to the recording, available to watch for 3 months after the event. Join us for an enlightening evening discussion tailored specifically for Healthcare Practitioners, as we delve into the intricate realm of hypomobility and the effective management of stiff patients. In this session, we will navigate through the complexities of hypomobility, exploring its underlying mechanisms, clinical manifestations, and implications for patient care. Current literature focuses on the hypermobile patient( see Tanya’s recorded presentation on HSD/hEDS: https://lnkd.in/duWkuHFf ) and the challenges this presents to clinicians. However, there is very little evidence-based literature available pertaining to the stiff patient. Genetically hypomobile, flexibility is challenging and doesn’t come naturally. This general stiffness is associated with compressive type overload, degeneration and overall poor mobility. Central to our discussion will be identifying this stiff patient group & optimally counselling them, as well as providing helpful treatment & rehabilitation strategies. These will include various therapeutic approaches designed to restore mobility and optimize function in stiff patients, such as manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercises and patient education, addressing the unique needs of each patient. Tanya will also delve into the crucial role of interdisciplinary collaboration in managing hypomobility, highlighting the importance of a cohesive and integrated approach to patient care. Don't miss this opportunity to expand your knowledge, refine your skills, and unlock movement potential in your patients.
