The Comcast cable dump can provide station groups with more content that some people will love. However, station groups still struggle to make their content more conveniently accessible to a larger audience on more screens OTA, ATSC 3.0 or not, and to gain control over more intelligent monetization options than what traditional STBs and CTVs can offer.?More intelligent access to first party data, and data aggregation, on all media screens in a household can enable a new unprecedented monetisation opportunity and personalized media experience. TVREV: “One possible outcome I keep turning to, given the expected outlook of the Trump Restoration FCC, is that these networks may be attractive targets for the larger local station groups, for licensing and even, ultimately, to see if Comcast would want to sell it off. Follow me on this. The local stations live in fear, nay, abject terror, that at some point soon the Big Four will decide it no longer makes financial sense for them to create separate slates of programming for broadcast TV and relegate broadcast to back-up status, showing day-old episodes of their streaming shows while creating something akin to a prime-time line-up on streaming. New Device Tech May Not Save Broadcast TV After All - Part 2 With consumers increasingly opting to assemble their own TV setups with a variety of streaming products and hardware, and also gravitating away from high-cost TV products, broadcast TV has never had a better opportunity for growth. The coinciding arrival of ATSC 3.0 tech, the stage was set for broadcast to return to relevance like never before. But technical and logistical challenges have hindered the resurgence of over-the-air TV. Varying reception and antenna quality mean that consumers can’t always get reliable video from the channels they want to watch, and compatibility and encryption issues with new ATSC 3.0 signals have made the improvements of “Next-Gen TV” a sort of vaporware from the consumer perspective. Broadcasters themselves also continue to prefer cable TV relationships and the reliable retransmission fee revenue they receive, rather than encouraging their own audience to tune in via antenna. These missed opportunities may mean that over-the-air TV remains a niche option rather than a central piece of future TV setups. Or is a OmniChannel Industry Solution which seamlessly merges OTA and OTT in a integrated UI on all devices the answer?
