FOUR FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING JOURNALISM INDUSTRIAL INTERNSHIP 1. Align the internship with your desired specialisation in journalism, such as broadcast, print, online, or investigative journalism. 2. Research the organisation's reputation, credibility, and values to ensure they align with your own. 3. Opt for internships that offer hands-on experience and meaningful responsibilities, such as writing, reporting, editing, or producing content. 4. Look for internships that provide access to experienced professionals who can offer guidance, mentorship, and feedback.

In 2016, I interned at Pratinidhi TV with a monthly stipend of ?8,000. Now, NDTV offers freshers ?12,000, which reflects only an 11.9% real increase after adjusting for inflation. Considering the 34% inflation rate from 2016 to 2024, the 2016 stipend of ?8,000 equals about ?10,720 today. For high-demand industries like media, an ideal stipend should range from ?15,000 to ?20,000 or more, aligning with current market trends and cost-of-living increases, especially in competitive urban areas.

An entry level job in my opinion should require a year worth of related college Practice Ciriculims, for example; a job for a PR firm entry level should be : 3 Quarters or 2 semesters of a student Public Relations firm like Central Communication Agency or related work such as graphic design team for CWU the Observer, and atleast a full season term for an internship in that job field. Saving all the work from these practice ciriculims and internship to a slide show or pdf to show the employer tangible skills, and undeniable evidence you can create, organize, and meet project standards is crucial. This is what I believe should rule out a standard for most entry level jobs.

The media landscape is rapidly evolving, and a 40-day period can help you adjust to these changes. If you approach the internship with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, this time can be sufficient to prepare you for the working world. In fact, many media organizations consider a 40-day internship adequate because, during this period, you are expected to show both speed and quality in your work. Why Focusing on a Job Afterward is Important After completing a 40-day internship, shifting your focus to securing a job can be a smart move, provided you've learned well during the internship. The fast-paced environment of the media industry requires you to keep up with constantly changing news cycles. So, when a job opportunity arises post-internship, it's essential to focus on it. Therefore, after your internship, it's crucial to concentrate on any job opportunities that come your way to advance your career in the right direction. Therefore, it’s essential to keep learning new techniques, methods, and trends, even while working. Every new report, every breaking story, and every new technology can help you become a better #journalist. A 40-day #internship can be sufficient in the journalism and media field, but focusing on a job afterward and continuing to learn is essential. The experience gained during the internship prepares you for the real-world challenges of #journalism. Ultimately, a blend of hands-on job experience and continuous learning will pave the way for a successful career in #media.

The irony of #internships Aren't internships meant to gain experience? Or Does an internship need prior experience? Allow me to share the biggest irony I recently experienced while applying for an internship. I applied for a Public Relations internship for which I was asked if I have prior experience in the field, which I do have. Yet, I didn't get in. It made me think, aren't internships the place to gain experience and learn? Then why does the recruiter ask for past experiences for an internship? For students, internships are a great place to learn and experience the work culture, especially in the field of journalism and mass communication. Then what is the point of past experience if one is applying for an internship to gain experience? What's your take on this?
