We recently published a new best practice guide on accessible RCV ballots (https://lnkd.in/gzksYvHa) and today, we wanted to dive into the topic of voter control in RCV ballots. When designing ballots, there are rules for the order in which candidates are shown, so the ballot is fair and objective. States make this decision in different ways, from arranging candidates alphabetically to using a lottery system. This works for most contests, where voters choose a single candidate. With ranked choice voting (RCV), the design challenge is a little more complicated. That’s because voters both select the candidates they are voting for and indicate their order of preference. Of course, the names always start in the same order. But what about while voting as voters rank the candidates? Or on the review screen? On a ballot marking device, marking their choices may be easy.? But voters with disabilities using the assistive features of a ballot marking device can find that verifying their rankings is harder. Two ballot design features can solve this challenge: - Let voters put candidates in order (when they are ready) - Show candidates in rank order on the final review and verification screen Learn about these features in our latest article: https://lnkd.in/gKCn_uzA

I’m so grateful for everyone who has voted already — we saw huge gains over the weekend, jumping an entire ranking and approximately 13%. Why does this all matter? ?? We-at-large have the opportunity to validate the creative work we've BEEN doing but has often been overlooked by systemic industry awards culture. ???? As a young and small company, this type of recognition further adds "credibility" and helps us better compete for meaningful work against the larger creative companies.? ?? Winning the category of Corporate Social Responsibility showcases a successful investment in the visibility and well-being of under- and mis- represented groups of people, especially in today’s divisive sociopolitical climate. ?? It’s deeper than commercial advertising - we put medicine in the candy and drew from lived experiences only we could tap to center a more nuanced and authentic humanization of Black men. Picture this: you’re at the voting station, excited to do your civic duty. But first, you’ve got to wrestle with the voting booth curtain like it’s the final boss in a video game. ??? What if I told you there’s a way to speed up voting times and improve people flow by ensuring empty booths have the curtains raised? ?? After the Sunday elections, yes, this is my big takeaway. Not the winners, not the results. ?? People tend to naturally gravitate towards booths with open curtains, even though a simple look at the lower part of the booth will tell them if it is occupied or not, regardless of the curtain status. So, by ensuring that once a person leaves the booth, somebody takes the curtain out of the way, the next person will no longer stop and admire the view but quickly go in and only spend time closing it. There’s much literature on building design and optimising people flow, but empiric things like keeping chairs out of the way and drawing curtains can make everybody’s day easier. About the results: I’m happy to share that Ecolo/Greens have held strong as the second-largest list in Etterbeek! However, we did take a bit of a dip, going from 11 councilors down to 8. On the bright side, that and the preferential votes have freed up my calendar for some new adventures and kept me out of local politics! ??♂? A big thank you to everyone who voted for me and for Ecolo/Groen Etterbeek. ?? Some fantastic people will keep pushing our message forward in the local council, so we’re in great hands. And as for me? Well, let’s cut down on curtain drama and get back to business as usual. ?? ??? Have a great day, everyone! ??
