My colleague Jeffry Alan Peters and Tom Jackiewicz wrote a great article recently published by #hfma. This article delves into the 50-year success story of one Integrated Delivery Network (IDN) and its evolution in the healthcare sector. Peters and Jackiewicz not only highlight the milestones achieved but also shed light on the strategic decisions, adaptations, and innovations that paved the way for its longstanding success. Many #hospitals and #healthsystems should consider a similar approach as they develop their medical group strategy and strengthen their financial performance. This amusing image of cats marching with "Save Fish" slogans humorously highlights a paradox: cats, who naturally love to eat fish, are advocating for their protection. This scenario mirrors a criticism often directed at some healthcare accreditation boards, like ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) and ISQua (International Society for Quality in Health Care). While these organizations raise slogans about improving healthcare quality and patient safety, there are concerns about the commercialization of their accreditation processes. Just as the cats in the picture appear to champion a cause contrary to their nature, some argue that certain accreditation bodies have turned the pursuit of quality into a business. By focusing heavily on certification and accreditation as profit-generating activities, they might be seen as prioritizing financial interests over genuine quality improvements. This commercialization can lead to a situation where the true essence of healthcare quality—ensuring patient safety and high standards—is overshadowed by the business of accreditation. Therefore, while these organizations play a crucial role in setting standards and improving practices, it's essential to ensure that their actions align with their stated goals, much like we would question the motives of our feline friends advocating for "Save Fish." #qci #ilac #nabh #nabl #isQua #jci #cap #quality #patientsafety
