Happy Lunar New Year to all celebrating! ?????? Lunar New Year has always felt special, and it often feels as if the new calendar year hasn't quite started until the festivities are over. Taking on running a company has meant experiencing it a completely different way, be it ordering oranges in bulk for our retailers (and figuring out which ones to order - 红美人, anyone?), or determining the most suitable greetings to send our partners in China and Taiwan using my now-rusty Mandarin. This year marks the Year of the Snake, with the snake being a symbol of change, adaptability, and most importantly, of renewal. It feels especially timely as we all enter a year where uncertainty only seems to be mounting, and change seems to be around every corner. It is a challenging time to be running an SME - I am now all too acquainted with the cost of business, and constantly concerned with building the company's resilience to tide through the impact of various geopolitical and economic forces. We are cautiously optimistic, though, and grateful to be in that position. It is clear that the way forward is foresight and long-term focus, and the courage to find and capture the opportunities that lie ahead. We have exciting plans lined up as we explore how we can be a business for good in the sports and fitness industries, with a clear set of values at our core, while maintaining our profitability and growth trajectory. I am immensely grateful to have a team that has been on board with my approach of treating the way forward as a blank canvas, and has embraced the change and shedding of older legacies. For anybody who wishes to join in the well wishes - hope this helps :) Chinese New Year is generally celebrated by the Chinese and Lunar New Year is the more inclusive phrase for those in other countries who also celebrate this time of year. There's two common Chinese languages - Cantonese and Mandarin. Mandarin is used mainly in China and Cantonese mostly in HK/USA/UK. From a personal experience, I can't read or write Chinese but understand some basic spoken Cantonese (wording at the top) but if you're not using English in your comms, make sure you pick the language that you want to use for your audience.

??? Happy Lunar New Year 2025! ?? Welcome the Year of the Wood-Snake. Each year in the lunar cycle is associated with a particular animal. This is a 12-year cycle that repeats itself. Thus, there are 12 animals associated with each year in the cycle. These are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. The snake is the sixth of the 12 animals that constitute the zodiac, coming just after the dragon, the most auspicious of all signs. Thus, sometimes, the year of the snake is referred to as little dragon (I love that band) year. Known for intuition, wisdom, slyness, and charm, according to one story, the snake joined a race to cross a great river, and the order of the animals in the cycle was based upon their order in finishing the race. In this story, the?snake?compensates for not being the best swimmer by hitching a hidden ride on the?Horse's?hoof. When the horse was about to cross the finish line, the snake jumped out, scaring the horse and thus edging it out for sixth place.
