Hillier College students benefit immensely from the insights and experience Dr. Yanxiao Feng brings via her joint appointment in the college. Bringing together parametric data on materials and environment, human experience, buildings and urban design is the pathway to modeling #resilience and #sustainability. #designeducation #designeducation
Dr. Yanxiao Feng, assistant professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, will deliver the lecture "Healthy and Resilient Built Environment: Applying Human-Centered Approaches with Data Sensing and Modeling Techniques" as part of CUSP’s Fall 2024 Research Seminar on Monday, November 25, from 1:30–2:30 PM EST at 370 Jay Street, Room 1201, at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. This event is open to the public with advance registration via Eventbrite (https://lnkd.in/g6SxpBva). We hope to see you there! The ability of buildings and their surrounding environments to provide a satisfactory experience significantly impacts the comfort, health, well-being, and productivity of occupants and workers. While many research efforts have focused on improving the health and resilience in the built environment, the interactions between humans and these environments have not been comprehensively explored. Emerging technologies, such as smart sensing and computing, offer strong technical support for investigating human-centered approaches. This presentation presents research directions that focus on leveraging human-centered system design and development to enhance the built environment. Dr. Yanxiao Feng is an assistant professor in the NJIT School of Applied Engineering and Technology and she also holds a joint appointment in the NJIT Hillier College of Architecture and Design . She leads the Lab for Intelligent and Resilient Built Environment which is dedicated to exploring intelligence, resilience, and sustainability in the built environment through human-centered approaches.

?? The 2024 Arch_Manu Research Symposium - Day 1 is Here! ?? We're thrilled to kick off our Annual Symposium with an exciting lineup of presentations and a keynote address from Andy Watts, Head of Design Technology at Grimshaw. ?? Venue Details: In-person: The Gallery, Ground Floor, Anita B Lawrence Centre (West Wing), UNSW Kensington Campus Online: Join via Teams Meeting with this link https://lnkd.in/dYT5Xcyz ??? Keynote Presentation Title: Open as an Opportunity Speaker: Andy Watts, Head of Design Technology at Grimshaw Abstract: The AEC sector faces a spectrum of sustainable, economic and social challenges. Against this backdrop, the need for technology and digitalisation is a necessity, not just added value. Indeed, the dynamic between technology and design has shifted and will continue to shift, but this evolving relationship is not always seamless or quick. Yet, despite working in an inherently competitive industry, we can still tackle the challenges of digital adoption, integration and collaboration through open dialogue that enables change and works with the transformative qualities of technology. Drawing on experience from practice in a global design technology team, from wider industry through initiatives such as the Future AEC Software Specification, and through research collaboration as part of the Arch_Manu consortium, Andy will provide thoughts and insight on how our industry can work together to embrace technology. Speaker Bio: Andy is the Head of Design Technology at Grimshaw and leads the practice’s global Design Technology team, overseeing digital disciplines such as computational design, BIM, extended reality, urban computation, applications development and environmental performance. Beyond Grimshaw, Andy has continued to drive for an open approach to technology, including co-authoring the Future AEC Software Specification. Looking forward to seeing you there! #ArchManu #ResearchSymposium #AEC #DigitalTransformation #Technology #Innovation #Grimshaw
Andy Watts, Head of Design Technology will deliver a keynote address on 29 October, at the inaugural Annual Research Research Symposium of Arch_Manu [ARC Centre for Next-Gen Architectural Manufacturing]. Grimshaw is an industry partner of Arch_Manu, which features an interdisciplinary research cohort of 25 PhD candidates and three post-doctoral fellows embedded in three participating Australian universities, hosted at UNSW (University of New South Wales) in Sydney. The Centre investigates how data and digital strategy can help the Architecture, Engineering and Construction sector meet critical sustainability and productivity goals. Andy’s keynote: “Open as an Opportunity” will be presented both live and live-streamed on Tuesday 29 October at 4.45 pm AEDT. Live tickets available at Eventbrite on https://lnkd.in/g6hMjZf9 #arch_manu #architecture #engineering #unsw #designtechnology
