Produce your own event or participate in an industry event? It seems that more and more brands are focusing their face2face strategy on events that are created by their own versus presenting in large scale industry events. I think this has more potential for getting the ROI you want from events. It is more accurate, you get your audience's full attention and the event is all about your brand so you get to do whatever you want. Two concerns still: 1. The cake has to be split somehow. Meaning, if a company has XXX budget for traveling to go see events, will they prefer your exclusive brand event versus industry event where they can meet all brands at once? 2. How to exhibit well! Here at SHOWCASE, we’ve been running events for over 30 years. We see some really impressive exhibitors at our event. So how do you exhibit well?? ?? Prepare, prepare, prepare It’s all in the planning. The more you know in advance, the better. Always plan in timings, taking into account if you’re held up on the day, and make sure you’re prepared for equipment malfunctioning. ?? Make sure to get involved It might sound obvious, but it’s an in-person event, so be engaging and make sure to connect with your audience. Big smiles are good for those who are a bit nervous to approach the stand. ?? What’s your goal? What’s your reason for exhibiting? Do you have a plan after the event? What would you like to do with your leads to convert them? Are you at the event to generate brand awareness, do you want visitors to sign up to something there and then? Every event is different. Yet most do the same. Early bird, regular ticket. That’s it, see you next year. I am always surprised when I talk to event teams who ignore the existence of alternative business models, such as hosted buyers. Many event operators find product market fit by tweaking their business model aggressively. Let’s dig deeper: / Hosted buyer. Use it if you host a sought-after audience with many sponsors. / Price increase. Use it if dealing with large volumes and want to secure attendance. / Invite only. Use it if operating in a crowded market and want to project exclusivity. / High price. Use it when you can leverage a strong brand and want to skim the audience. Of course, you can mix and match. I recently suggested a combination of price increases and hosted a buyer for a client who needed to reposition their brand. What other approaches have you seen in the market?
