If we try to fix leadership at the middle and upper management levels, it might be a bit too late. We should start developing leadership skills at the individual contributor level instead. There are many programs focused on "fixing" leadership at middle and upper management levels, and I can't help but wonder why, while there are few to none for individual contributors. It takes guts to turn the pyramid upside-down, and put the individual contributors at the top and management at the bottom. At the same time, there is no shame in followership, as this validates the leader. Today's followers often become tomorrow's leaders, validating leadership through their own journey. Wouldn't it make sense for all employees to have access to leadership training?
