AWIN, the Adolescents’ and Women’s Initiatives Network, is a Pan-African network born out of the belief that real change happens when collaborative solidarity is at the heart of every action. Our mission is simple but bold: to empower African girls and women by strengthening the organizations that serve them. We know that when communities unite, magic happens. Through co-creation, advocacy, and capacity building, we are equipping grassroots and national organizations with the tools they need to transform societies from within.
Why We Do What We Do
We are a movement driven by the strength of African girls and women, and we believe that the future of Africa belongs to its women and girls. From the adolescents and women in rural Kenya dreaming of a world free of violence and discrimination, to the woman in Mozambique fighting for her economic independence, to the community organizations advocating for change in local governments across the continent—we see them, and we stand with them. AWIN believes that to empower women is to empower nations, and we are committed to giving them the resources, skills, tools and platforms they need to lead and succeed.
At the core of our model is capacity building—an approach that believes in creating lasting, sustainable change. It’s not just about offering support; it’s about ensuring that organizations have the skills and knowledge to lead long after the spotlight fades. We offer trainings, workshops, and collaborative learning forums that strengthen grassroots organizations, allowing them to push for policy reforms and societal shifts that prioritize our core themes. We focus on the ripple effect: when one organization thrives, the entire community around it flourishes. This, in turn, sparks a wider movement that resonates across nations.
