Commercialised silicon-based solar cells typically achieve conversion efficiencies of 24%. ? Oxford PV, a spin-out of the University of Oxford, is focused on commercialising perovskite-on-silicon tandem solar cells, which have a theoretical maximum efficiency of over 43%, compared to less than 30% for silicon solar cells. ?? ? In 2024 Oxford PV intends to scale-up manufacturing and continue to progress plans for a new factory to produce its tandem solar cells in high volumes. ? Chris Case, Chief Technology Officer of Oxford PV, said: “Solar energy is currently among the most cost-effective and sustainable energy sources”. ?? ? They also said that their continuous advancements in technology will further enhance module efficiency – producing more electricity from the same area – and extending their use to all market sectors from residential, commercial through to utility scale. ? David Ward, Chief Executive Officer, Oxford PV, said: “This new world record is a crucial milestone for Oxford PV, proving that our tandem solar cells can deliver record-breaking performance when assembled into solar panels”. ? We just published our quarterly report for First Solar, setting a price target at $202. This corresponds to a 31% upside from the yesterday's closing price. With a blend of solid results and a cheaper price, we see First Solar as a better investment now vs in January despite lowering target price from $210. Report Highlights: ? The average price of new bookings was $0.318 per watt. It is higher than our current estimates from $0.27 to $0.31 for non-Indian shipments in 2027-2030. ? Cost reduction outlook came in better than expected for 2024. ? The gross bookings of 4.4GW are less than half the average seen over the past eight quarters. More uncertainty in contracting is to be expected in 2024. ? Management forecasts an EPS of $13-14 for the current year, surpassing our prior estimate of $10. ? We adjusted the long-term EBIT margin down from 19% to 17% upon re-evaluating the competitiveness of module manufacturing business. Broke down EBIT margin by sum-of-the-parts. ? Fourth-quarter profits matched our estimates, despite the shipments volume falling short. ?
