Finding your Zone of Genius can be a very conscious and intentional process. But this is the kind of discovery and self-awareness that truly takes you towards progress and fulfillment.

Interestingly (at least to me) it took me a long time to admit what my Zone of Genius was... What I thought I wanted to do vs what I am truly good at turned out to be different things. Learning to embrace that was a game-changer.

"The Genius Zone" by Gay Hendricks is a fantastic book that covers this concept in detail. Key learnings: - The mass majority of high achievers get trapped in the zone of excellence - People will throw more money at you to stay in your zone of excellence - People around you will get angry when you try to break out the zone of excellence - If you currently spend 0% of your time in your zone of genius, try for 10% first, then 20%, then 30%, and keep increasing it until you reach your target. It's not binary, it's a genius spiral.

I wonder how often successful leaders abandon or delegate tasks in the Zone of Excellence, and how often they find ways to learn to enjoy those tasks where they are best in class but find the task draining. Finally, how many of those draining tasks become sacred? I love the idea of spending 80% of my time on tasks that are energizing, but I wonder if the best way to get to 80% is to move tasks from box 3 to box 4.

Trust me Matt Schnuck I've seen how powerful a simple mindset shift can be!! For me, it was realizing that success isn't just about achieving goals, but also about enjoying the journey.. it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, but taking a step back to appreciate what you've accomplished and where you are can make all the difference in the world!!
