HAN member systems Corewell Health and Henry Ford Health joined the Detroit Chamber of Commerce to discuss how businesses are leading the effort to connect workforce shortage challenges with the half a million working-age adults in the Detroit Region who are disconnected from the workforce. From the Detroit Regional Chamber article: Regardless of the approach, all three panelists had a similar vision for what the future will look like once the talent crisis is addressed with a focus on the health care system. “[It will be a place where] we have deeper relationships with pipelining for those that have criminal convictions … that require accommodations … who are veterans. Where we have solid pipelining within the careers, within health care,” [Jan] Harrington-Davis [Corewell Health's Senior VP of Talent Attraction] said. “Also, that our communities are vibrant and thriving, and Michigan is the best place to come live and work, and we have the ability to recruit people from outside of Michigan into Michigan to live within our communities. The question about physical and mental health management really resonated. With three kids under 6, it's a daily adventure in adaptation. Here's what I've learned: There's a crucial difference between balance and equipoise. Balance suggests equal distribution - a nearly impossible standard. Equipoise, however, is about consciously managing opposing forces to find stability. It's dynamic, not static. As a #workingmom, I've found that true balance might be unrealistic, especially with little ones. Instead, I strive for equipoise - that sweet spot where different priorities find their rhythm, even if not equally weighted. In this season of life, excellence lives in the ordinary moments. Each day feels like a sprint, but it's our daily rituals and disciplines that help maintain that delicate equipoise. That's what keeps our family thriving. Yesterday, I dropped my youngest at daycare for the first time. The emotions were raw and real. Yet my work fills me with purpose and drives me forward. Here's to another year of purposeful pursuit toward our shared vision. Building a Healthier Green County! Yesterday, I had the privilege of joining Green County community leaders, concerned citizens, dedicated professionals, and LAUNCH students at Blackhawk Technical College’s Monroe Campus for a meeting of the Green County Healthy Communities Coalition. Together, we’re in the final stages of developing the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), which will serve as a blueprint for the coalition's collaborative action over the next three years. After engaging in networking and a review of the CHIP process, we split into two focus groups: Housing and Mental Health. These areas are the two foundational priorities identified during the 2024 Community Health Assessment. Although each topic is critical, my focus through the coalition remains on expanding access to affordable, safe housing for all Green County residents. This ongoing issue is one that I hear about frequently through the work our staff does directly with individuals in need. Housing is not just a basic need—it’s a cornerstone of stability, opportunity, and health. Ensuring that our community members have safe places to live is essential to creating lasting, positive change. We have one final meeting in February to refine the objectives and strategies for both priority areas before the CHIP can be finalized. I’m excited about the collective impact we’ll have as we transition towards implementation. Nationwide Support: Over 90 technical assistance hours provided to 25+ communities through the EPA’s Community Change grant, helping them secure critical funding and resources for sustainable growth! ?? Workshops with Purpose: Delivered 10 impactful workshops for the Safe and Sound Network, reaching over 250 participants on topics like building effective partnerships and managing social services. ?? Thought Leadership: Honored to be a featured speaker at VIA Connects Conference, discussing community-centered healing practices and strategies for marginalized groups. ?? Economic Empowerment: We’ve connected countless Black business owners with jobs, opportunities, and capital, fueling economic growth and equity in underserved communities. ?? What's Next? We’re confirmed as a speaker for The Funder’s Network (TFN) Conference in 2025, further solidifying Community Rx as a leader in community-driven healing and social change. ??
